Potential to pay less in revenue sharing by those 2 clubs increasing their attendance.

Yup. So for one last time:

NHL maps out major changes (Realignment to 4 divisions?)
Realignment II: Well, why not, we've got another year to kill
NHL Realignment 2012-13 Part III
NHL Realignment 2012-2013 - Part IV

And finally!!!!:

Nhl Approves New Four-conference Format For Next Season

Just think how little we'll have to talk about here when the Roman Numerals Thread ends.

But hey, we still have the next Lockout Harmonious Kumbaya-singing CBA negotiations to look forward to.

So....if we're calling them conferences...are we adding two more trophies people won't touch or retiring the two that already exist?

They already had to visit those sunbelt teams, plus they stay in their cozy little nest up in the NE otherwise. Like everyone else, they will have the home-and-home with all teams.

I stopped paying attention a month ago and just got the TSN alert.

What a stupid, stupid, stupid conference Montreal has found itself part of next year. I'd rather have been part of a coast-to-coast conference up north than have the Northeast + Florida.

I can't imagine Florida is thrilled about this either.

Stupid.

Stupid.

Stupid.

Hell, I'd rather MO's weird random scattering of teams from all over the place conference structure than this bizarro conference.

Correct me if I'm wrong. The new setup means we could have Philly/Boston or Toronto(don't laugh) Montreal SC finals?
Or Wings/Sharks...you get my drift?

If so, I like it...if not I don't like it.

I never thought they'd actually have the guts to do this. Looking forward to only four 9PM start time games next year!

Oh wonderful.

I'd rather blow up the cozy little nest. The Habs are now in Russia and the Florida teams are in Kaliningrad.

And for good reason. Every team got something out of the proposal shown on HNIC except them.
4/7chances to make the playoffs is way better than 4/8

maybe they will award them in a random way? like the semifinal with the highest seed in it wins the wales trophy and the other the campbell? it aint great but i think they should find some way to award them

Probably not enough to make any difference in that regard.

The Atlantic division got to stay in "their cozy little nest" as well. They still have the least travel, by far, in the league and gain Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals.

The Central division gets its more balanced schedule it was insisting on, along with every team being either in the ETZ or CTZ.

The Pacific division teams also get the more balanced schedule they wanted and have every team in the Mountain or Pacific time zones.

The Northeast gets...?

Not a fan of divisional playoffs. Gone is the potential 8th over 1st seed upset. Gone are the best teams making the playoffs. Say goodbye to developing rivalries through the playoffs, now we'll only get see Chi-Van or Det-SJ after the 2nd round.

I do approve of every team visiting every arena each year. And the potential SCF matchups that could occur could make any fan drool.

Philly/Boston I think so. Toronto/Montreal i don't think so. They are in the same conference, so would play in the first 2 rounds.

Both teams attract a lot of Snowbird sales when Canadian clubs visit, especially Montreal and Toronto. That helps a lot.

This is better for rivalries. For example, when was the last time we had a Col-Det playoff series. That rivalry died because it was basically relying on both teams getting to at least the second round. That had to end eventually. This way we could see something like Van-Edm becoming big because they are playing each other 6 times a season, and then they might see each other 4 out of 5 years

- they now visit florida and tb MORe - thats a negative.

- They didn't want the extra travel of home and homes - thats a negative.

That leaves us with they're still in the Northeast. Wow, pop out the champagne!
