I agree. Before we sell the farm for a goalie, I'd like to know what we have in our cupboards first.

And as for Schneider... I mean, if we could get Bugsy to waive his NMC that'd be great, but it won't happen. Honestly, the price is probably just too high right now. Downie is probably the most likely guy to be moved in a package for a goaltender (unless anyone wants Kubina), but he gives us some grit and good skill that we would be missing. Although that could open up a slot for Ashton on the big club...

Not a lot, probably a second. Tampa has had bad luck with young "sure-thing" goalies.

So if Ohlund is done for good, does anybody think he'd actually retire, or would he force a buyout? He'd be leaving a whole lot of money on the table by retiring.

The cap hit would hurt in a buyout situation:

2015-16

Those are the really ugly years.

Unless he plans to go back to Sweden maybe an offer to be an assistant coach. Our D certainly needs all the help it can get.

Cap hit/season
2012-13: -$413,690
2013-14: $836,310
2014-15: $2,586,310
2015-16: $3,586,310
2016-17: $979,167
2017-18: $979,167
2018-19: $979,167
2019-20: $979,167

Ohlund's not going to be bought out so long as he's injured, and to compound that, the CBA expires in September, so the buyout parameters may change.

Owen Nolan 2.0?

At any rate, nothing is going to be done with that right now, unless Ohlund decides to retire, making all of this moot.

We'd be better off just leaving him on the roster and on LTIR, wouldn't we? Assuming he doesn't want to retire.

With Pyatt's extension we're now at 9 forwards, 4 defensemen and 1 goalie signed for at least another season:

F:
Lecavalier
Stamkos
St. Louis
Malone
Purcell
Thompson
Tyrell
Pyatt
Labrie

D:
Brewer
Ohlund
Hedman
Bergeron

G:
Garon

RFAs at the end of the season:
F: Downie, Wyman; Picard
D: Oberg, Mikkelson; Jackson, Kostka
G: Janus

UFAs: at the end of the season:
F: Moore, Shannon, Hall; Ouellet, Smith, Angelidis
D: Kubina, Clark, Gilroy, Gervais; Petiot
G: Roloson

Downie, Wyman and Gilroy deserve a new contract. How about Moore? Whoelse?

As said on the main board, it wouldn't surprise me to see Purcell, Moore, Hall, Kubina and/or Clark finish the season elsewhere.

If Roloson and Kubina leave, that's a nice chunk of cash just between the 2 of them with $6.850 mil in cap space alone. Of all our UFAs and RFAs I can't really see anyone getting a big raise, so this could be a good chance to spend this offseason and fix up some big holes.

Labrie's contract is also two-way.

We've got to re-sign Moore. He makes his linemates better.

He played for 7 teams before us, and so there's 7 GMs who wish they hadn't let him go.

I think Yzerman will listen to offers for Moore as the deadline approaches, and if a nice one comes along, deal him and go after him again in the offseason. As we've seen before, plenty of teams will be willing to pay for what Moore offers. It's a risk, but for the right price it's worth it.

That also means not having Moore for the playoffs.

I would think that's the preferred way. If he passes, or rather doesn't pass, the league physicals. If he stays on the roster on LTIR, no cap hit, but salary still paid, correct? Or do I have that mixed up?

For some reason I don't think that will be a problem...

Moore, Downie, and Wyman/Hall as F, and Gilroy probably back. I don't know about Clark, even as a bottom pairing guy. I think there are probably better bottom pairing guys available that I'd rather not waste the roster spot/money on him.

Plus, you have to think next year Ashton gets a shot on the big club. What does that mean for Downie, though? Does that make him more expendable as trade bait?

I doubt we can get anyone who annoys other teams and fans as much as Downie

I don't think you let your superstar's BFF walk, a little surprised he hasn't been re-signed already.

We have quite a few players to upgrade before we get to Downie. Guess I forgot the

Loyalty is important in any team sport, especially with the superstar's room mate. I think Yzerman realizes that and should be rightfully upgrading the defensemen, goaltending and overall team defense, hence the Pyatt signing.

But you can also take it too far. (see Hurricanes, Carolina)

For the love of God bring up Tokarski. This season is killing me enough having to look at those pathetic half assed "uniforms" and "logos", and I have to watch their awful play match their awful unis?

Give me a break! Bring up Tick!

It's for this reason that I sort of don't want to trade Tokarski.

The opportunity to yell "Spoon!" after a big save doesn't happen every day.

Coincidentally, Roloson's battle cry this season has been "Not in the face! Not in the face!".

Roloson could work in a deal for Schneider.

Luongo is not clutch on the road. Roloson has been clutch, historically.

Luongo is going to get the mass of games, no matter the backup, but when they need a well rested guy who can potentially be clutch, Roloson.
