I think the value of a blue chip forward prospect, which Connolly is, is way higher than that of a goalie, even one as highly touted as Schneider. I get the feeling that if we trade Connolly, it's going to be a move we end up regretting for a long long long long time.

Oh, and I get the feeling that next year we may be icing a line of Connolly/Stamkos/Yakupov

What do you think: Our big four (Stamkos, St. Louis, Lecavalier, Hedman) and Connolly aside, whoelse will or should be not available from now on up to the TDL or even the off-season?

IMO:
Downie (have to re-sign him though)
Thompson
Brewer
Gilroy

Other than those four, none of those are unmoveable, to be honest. It's just for someone like Connolly, he has to be a piece for a star player to make us not regret it, I think.

I would trade Connelly for a stud goalie right now.

If the goalie is currently a number one, sure. If he's a glorified backup(Schneider, Bernier) I'd do it straight up.

I don't see any possibility of Suter coming here at all. That's just wishful thinking on the same level as Richards coming here.

We just need a temporary goalie until Tic is ready, no need to trade away a big piece like Connolly. There's a lot to fix right now, and nothing is going to come immediately that helps us in the long-run. Yzerman has said in the past that he's committed to a longer rebuild. It pains me to say it, but we're going to have to wait even more for successful times. We were so ****ing close last year too.

Tallon looks like he did it the right way (unfortunately) for the Kittens. Traded away big name/contract players for lots of draft picks and young talent. 23 picks in last 2 years, 3 1st and 3 2nd round picks in 2010 draft now making an impact

Thing is, who would have thought we'd get where we did last year at the beginning of the season? We were just hoping to get to the playoffs. We expected a rebuilding period when SY came on board and we did better than any of us thought, but we took a step backward this year with injuries and our shortcomings now being exposed. With a smart draft and some FA pickups, we should be better especially when our top lines don't have to worry about also playing D and goalie on every shift.

Is there more of a roller coaster ride team in entire league?

2004: win it all
2008: lottery pick
2009: lottery pick
2011: ECF
2012: lottery pick

Crazy

As others said this is the offseason where we really see what SY is made of and what he wants to do with the team. This season was a wash and that's fine, and if everything goes right we can turn it around come next year for sure.

So why hasn't Tampa Bay called up Tokarski for even a quick look to gauge his development?

General manager Steve Yzerman considered it about a month ago, but coach Guy Boucher wanted to give struggling No. 1 Dwayne Roloson more time to find his game.

"I always want to believe in our players," Boucher said. "Any player at any moment of the year can turn things around; you never know when, especially with a guy who's done it before who's got experience. … I believe (Roloson) can still do well."
Quote:
For what it's worth, Boucher last week did not publicly raise any objections: "The reality is we have a guy in the minors whose contract is up, and he's been doing real well in the minors. And we have a general manager who wants to know what he's got. That's normal."
Interesting..

No.

YOU WILL NOT SPOIL OUR QUEST FOR THE NO. 1 DRAFT PICK!!!!

We will now play Mason on Jan. 24th and do everything we can to tank further so you can't get it.

ok, new divisional alignment

NY Islanders
Tampa Bay
Edmonton
Anaheim
Columbus

Bouch, please stop trying to let Roloson find his game. I know the age thing makes you want to believe in him even more, but quite frankly, he's done (at least at the NHL level)

Did you not tell Connolly that this is a performance league at the beginning of the year?

Interesting to note that it was about a month ago, we read reports that Tokarski had been recalled, to not be. There definitely was some type of movement happening around Tokarski then. This must have been what was happening, just as Gary Boucher intervened for a little more time.

I say this objectively, but if Boucher's job was on the line, Roloson would have already been shown the door.

SFY and Boucher's jobs are safe, but they still need to remember why they got that way.

This is also why the coach and GM are best kept as separate jobs, as the coach is more likely to get to know the players as people, and grow attached to them. Whereas the GM can be the axeman if he's thinking a guy can't play.

The question is are the lightning willing to part ways with the big names and big contracts. The first player that comes to mind is Lecavalier.

Ive been monitoring the lightning all season long and the team is in awkward position. One win away from stanley cup to top 5 draft pick.

I really dont believe its in the lightning's best interest to trade away a guy like lecavalier and for the team to "rebuild".

If the team is capable of drafting a nhl ready defensemen this summer and acquire a number 1 goaltender then it would not surprise me if the team flips right back into being a cup contender.

I just wish this team didn't have to write off entire seasons just to "improve". Waste of ****ing time.
