With the injuries piling up (Tyrell) and Connolly being benched for most of the 2nd and 3rd period I gotta wonder what's our plan here?

Quote:

It appears Brett Connolly has been benched, hasn't take a shift yet in the third period, only played 1:54 in the second

Connolly took one more shift in the 3rd, IIRC.

The body language of Connolly wasn't very good, especially when he would come off the ice. He looked bored and not into the game.

True haha. But his line got pulled after a stoppage once and he lollygagged (for lack of a better word) in getting off. Was hoping he'd come back from the WJC energized.

Great post, or the greatest post?

I wouldn't be surprised if we end up spending some pretty big bucks during the free agency period. If Josh Harding is on the market, I'd like to see us push for him. There will also be plenty of FA defensemen that could help as as well. We're going to have a lot of cap space and we might be able to address ALL of our needs without having to sacrifice valuable assets. In the meantime, we can acquire a few more picks by dealing players like Moore, MAB, Shannon, Clark, and even Kubina. By doing so, we will not only have piled up a bunch of picks (which obviously makes it easier to deal one or two if something comes up later), but it will give some other guys a shot with the big club for some NHL experience.

We are in a very good position here to become a legitimate playoff threat by next year and build through the draft at the same time. If Yzerman plays his cards right, we might not even have to part with key players or prospects.

Brady & Lang on THE FAN 590/FAN Sports Radio joined the dump Boucher/ Stevie on the hot seat band wagon this AM. They said the Bolts did well last year because Rolie had a career year. I have to agree the goals against number each game in 2012 have been very poor. Was it coincidence the Bolts dumped the silly pregame video of Boucher as orchestra conductor yesterday?

Firing Boucher would ensure two things.

1. Montreal gets their French speaking head coach

2. Pierre Gauthier keeps his job

It would do jack **** for the Lightning.

the thought of firing boucher and/or yzerman is so disturbing that if that ever (and it wont) happened I would probably drop the lightning as my team, all respect for this organization would be gone.

I really think Boucher has the potential to be a Lindy Ruff type coach. Long tenure. At least I hope.

There will be a day when Boucher is no longer the coach of the Lightning. That day is not yet close nor warranted, however.

The same can be said for Yzerman.

I don't get how anyone could say Roloson had a career year last year. Is it really that hard to look up stats on NHL.com? Seriously.

Great take.

How would you feel about the Bolts' blueline if, in addition to re-signing Gilroy, Yzerman signed, say, Tim Gleason and Johnny Boychuk?

Boychuk-Hedman
Gleason-Brewer
Gilroy-Bergeron
Ohlund*

Gleason has been on top of my wish list for a long time now. He'd be great here.

That blueline would make me very happy.

Or at least Boychuk and Suter

I've accepted that this season is going to be a lost cause so I started looking to free agency as it is and here is my early 2012 off-season Wish List:

Forwards: One of Mikhail Grabrovski (If he is willing to play wing), Andrei Kostitsyn, or Ales Hemsky to improve our secondary scoring and increase our upper depth chart. Perhaps even Jarret Stoll to center the 3rd line and play the point on the PP? (IF we cut ties with Moore after this year or trade him at the deadline.)

Dare I say if all else fails, risk signing of Alex Semin to a one-year deal and let him play with MSL? I know Yzerman wants a long term solution, but it would give us that Gagne-feel again with a potential game-breaking forward on a 1 year deal.

Defense: Obviously the #1 on everyone's list, Ryan Suter would be the number 1 target for us as well. Behind him I would say Tim Gleason, Johnny Boychuck, or Brad Stuart for a top 4 role.

Goaltending: I would like to see our goaltending problem solved with a legitimate number 1, and it seems the only of those in the UFA pool is Tomas Vokoun. I believe he is definitely an upgrade over what we've had to go through this year, but I'm not sold on taking on another older goalie. I could also see Yzerman signing someone like Brian Elliot after a year like this, but I believe he needs a strong defense to play like he has been (Unlike his time in Colorado and Ottawa). I would also be happy with giving Josh Harding a 2-year deal and let him have his shot at being a full-time number 1.

From within the organization, I would let Ashton and Conacher have a shot on the big stage, and give Tik a shot in net, because honestly, it can't get much worse than this.

I'd be happy with Boychuk or Stuart. Could have a great chance at Stuart, due to the whole Red Wings/Yzerman connection there.

I doubt Elliot stays with St. Louis unless they make the full commitment to him (as in trading Halak). SFY would be wise to keep tabs on the Blues situation closely.

I doubt St. Louis will be an issue. I'm not sure Halak will give a **** about riding pine for 4 mil.

Since this seems to be the thread that has all the Boucher discussion, a brand new website in support of Guy Boucher!

(Yes, despite the title of the site, it is anti-firing. they may want to do more than just add a question mark)

It's definitely squatting on whoever would want to fire him.
