SFY did go Oprah on scouts. Added 10.

Something to laugh about:

Quote:
On Ryan Malone...

Malone rumors are always common place, but when talking to those who know Ryan well he is happy in Tampa and the only trade he would likely accept would be a move back to Pittsburgh. That's not to say someone wouldn't try to convince him otherwise..Buffalo is one such team who may be about to try.
Quote:
On Lecavalier...

Nothing to the current rumors involving Vancouver. The Canucks are definitely aggressive buyers, but not interested in Lacavalier's contract. That is not to say Vinny couldn't be moved at all. Yes, the contract is prohibitive, but there are a few teams who are willing to explore it and a few of those teams are teams I have been told Vinny would consider going to.

The Helena Bighorns website still says he's a scout with the Lightning.

You would think they would use a different photo of Koules rather than one with the logo of the team he ran into the ground and lost millions of dollars on plastered all over the background.

EDIT:

Blues sign Brian Elliott to a 2 year extension, may make Halak more available.

It'd be nice if this was an indication that Halak was on the block, but all signs point to Hitch continuing to roll both goaltenders...god I want a true #1 goalie SO much.

MvW had some interesting stuff involving this kind of thing on yesterday's episode.

They were talking about how emo Ryan Miller's gotten, and one of them (probably Jeff Marek) brought up that the Red Wings gave Chris Osgood a week off.

Just a week off to take a break from team stuff, and reassess.

I'm thinking it might help Roloson (or maybe not, as age is the culprit) Any sort of '12 hour system' Roloson uses should definitely get reset this way. A hard reset.

It would also give us a perfect excuse to give Tokarski a shot without explicitly writing on the wall, as we'd have to carry another goalie during this time anyway.

They also mentioned that Ryan Miller's tires have been kicked by SJ and CHI.

Bob McKenzie is suggesting Ben Bishop to us: http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/#clip604237

If he doesn't play 15 games until the end of the season he'll become a UFA instead of a RFA.

Ben Bishop is interesting. I hadn't thought of him because of Elliot's situation.

It all depends on the price he can be had for, compared to other guys, and how highly SFY and scouts think of him.

Bishop is a good goalie though, every time I've seen him play, he's been pretty good. Never 'lights out' impressive, but still impressive.

What concerns me, is his lack of NHL experience.

13GP (4-5-1)
614 total minutes, so he's actually closer to 10 games played.
1 Shutout
29GA 280SA
2.83 GAA
.896 sv% (for comparison, Garon is at .899 sv%)

None of which is from this year.

Also, no NHL playoff experience.

So if you compare Bishop's stats this season with Peoria

27 GP (17-14-2) 924 saves, 2.55 GAA, .914 SV%

to Tokarski

26 GP (17-9-0) 581 saves, 2.46 GAA, .902 SV%

You see that Bishop is getting a lot more rubber but maintaining similar numbers to Tokarski.

Bishop, however, is also 3 years older than Tik, so I don't think he's all that much better of an option over Tokarski. He may be more ready to take that step, though.

but I don't think Bishop is equatable to what Bernier or Schneider could do for us, right now.

If Bishop does become a UFA, I don't think we'd sign him as our starter, so there's that to keep in mind as well.

That's the only reason he isn't playing in St. Louis this season. In the video I posted McKenzie says Bishop was better than both Halak and Elliott in camp but the Blues picked Elliott over Bishop because of his experience.

By the way, you posted Bishop's numbers from last season. This season he's:

27 GP (17-10-0) 796 saves, 2.17 GAA, 0.932 SV%

So he's in fact getting more rubber but maintaining even better numbers than Tik.

Another fact that makes him quite intriguing: He's 6'7".

What are the chances of bringing Helenius back this summer? A guaranteed NHL spot?

On Bishop once more:
Quote:
For those who didn't see Insider Trading last night (for shame), STL goalie prospect Ben Bishop is headed toward unrestricted free agency.

Unless Bishop plays 17 NHL games (of 30+ minutes/game) this season, he qualifies as Group 6 unrestricted free agent July 1. Quality goalie.

STL won't give Bishop away but team could trade for him now, play him 17 games, take him out of Group 6 and he reverts to a Group 2 RFA.

Or just let Bishop go to UFA, make pitch in off-season. Interesting scenario. Bishop has .932 SPct in AHL with 6 SO. Most say he's NHL ready

For those asking, Group 6 UFA goalie is a 25 yr old with three pro seasons who played less than 28 NHL games (game defined as 30+ minutes).

After the Smellis debacle last year and Garolosongeddon this season maybe it's time for a different goalie coach in Tampa? Smitty's words kinda point that way too:
Quote:
[Mike Smith] said goaltenders coach Sean Burke has been "a huge, huge mentor for me."

"I've matured a lot as a player. I've learned a lot about my game and what it takes to be more consistent," Smith said. "I don't know if that would have happened if I would have stayed in Tampa. I'm not saying it wouldn't have. I just think I've learned a lot about my game this season than I have in the past."

Blues fan here hoping you guys take Bishop. Bishop grew up here in STL and actually played against him in highschool. Bishop has been a great goalie here in STL and everyone loves him and actually expected and wanted him to be the backup this year. He has great size being 6'7 so he covers a lot of the net obviously. His one NHL shutout was against the Oilers last year stopping 39 shots. Love Bishop and he deserves a shot in the NHL. Wouldn't even want anything from you guys just would love to see him get his shot.
