I have let him go. I'm not pining for him, but I wouldn't be actively mad if he came back some of you would be.

What else would he be? He's not the #1C, Smith's got the #3C locked up, and Kelly's definitely not coming back to be the 4C.

Kelly's time has passed with the Sens. Besides I fully expect him to be re-signed by the Bruins.

I've always been a big Tuomo fan, always felt he fit in Ottawa.

With a good word put in by Jarkko I could see this happening...

Well with the way things are going for Carolina, if they choose to part ways with Tuomo, they'll likely sell him at the deadline, and I don't see us being buyers (at least I hope not).

Who's to say he re-signs? When's the last time we re-signed a rental?

Hopefully his other brother, Mikko, who is on the Sens' scouting staff puts in a good word, too.

I always liked Tuomo and felt he never hit his potential with the Canes so I would be REALLY happy if Ottawa did sign him.

Having Ryan Suter would be orgasmic.

1. If Alfie retires, replace his 4 mill with another forward making 4 mill
2. Give most of if not all of Kuba's money to Karlsson, save the rest.
3. Wait till the next off-season, then go nuts

Depends on the state of the team and what the free agents want. Even though people hate on Kovalev and Gonchar those were both considered 'big name' signings at the time. When you consider the current level of the free agent market and how few 'big name' free agents actually make it there anymore we've been relatively popular on that front.

With that in mind I don't expect them to make a move this summer. We've had so much success (relative) with the team that we have right now other than filling holes left by Kuba and maybe Alfredsson (which could possibly be done internally) we don't need to make moves right now.

While I'd love to have Kelly back, as others have mentioned, his time has past here. He will also likely be getting a raise, and with Zack Smith emerging I'm content with him as our 3C at a fraction of the price.

As far as big name UFA's, we certainly have the cash to throw around this summer, however I'd only be interested in Parise and Suter. Don't want anything to do with Semin.

I agree with this. Landing a Suter or Parise type would cost us three or four from our future. And we don't know what they will become - Cowen could end up in the same discussion as a Suter by example. And the guys teams will target for return would be of the Cowen, Smith, Rundblad ilk - guys I think are the future of this team.

I think its important to add 1 or 2 (if Alfredsson retires) top 6 forwards in the offseason at the least. Its hard to land multiple key players in a year so if we can get a player or two we like this year its better then waiting for the next crop of free agents in 2013 because we might miss the boat then.

If for some reason 2013 is a weak crop or BM can't make the right deals then getting players in 2012 is important for the future.

Not sure I'm understanding this post. Suter and Parise are both UFAs, we wouldnt have to give them anything.

cullen wanted to stay to
i think that you sign parise this year because we will have cap then gonchs contract is done after next year and you use that money to sign your younger players getting new contracts now if you dont get him you sign a guy like ruutu who i think can do what greening does but more scoring or can play on 2nd line

Parise has been my favorite player since I can remember, and i'd run down the street in joy if they signed him, but it's highly doubtful even if we had the cap space. Word is his dad wants him to sign with Minnesota, and he just bought a house there with his fiance. Not that it means a whole lot, but there are some rumors swirling that if he doesn't stay with NJ he may push for Minnesota.

My reading of the management is that nothing big will be done to sign FAs next year.
I still see trade deadline deals being made for draft picks to make the player pipeline huge.
Melnyk will be happy to have as low as possible salary cap next year.
I expect the team to run with the current set of players (minus some UFAs) and bringing up some more players from Bingo next year.

In 2-3 years time, as this current group jells, and Spezza is in his prime, an attempt will be made for a run at the cup. That is when the best UFAs tactically will be signed.

I wouldn't mind Suter coming here, our top 4 would be sick if that where the case.

I assume the Sens will gear up to make an offer to Parise, but I'd be pretty surprised if they make an offer for him... and I would also be surprised if he gets to UFA at all.
Ruutu would be a good option because even if you give him 4yrs 16mil, at the absolute worst you're getting a big (6'1, 205), physical (309 hits in 11-12, 2nd in NHL), skilled guy who is good for 45+ points a year. Thats not a great deal but its certainly not that bad. Similar prices were paid for Cole and Upshall, neither of whom is as useful a player as Ruutu. I'd offer him a similar contract to Cole at most, but I think Ruutu at 4.5 for 4 years is significantly better than Cole at 4.5 for 4 years.

It seems like Ottawa isn't a favourite for players to play here and stay. The sens have a lot a decent amount of talent the last 5 or 6 years.

Havlat
Heatley
Chara
Volchenkov

Just to name a few. This team used to be scary but it seems like players A don't want to stay here or they have been dealt. Is there a reason why?

Besides Ottawa not currently being a cup contender..

Both Chara and Volchenkov wanted to stay, it was management that decided to go another direction (Redden, Gonchar).

Havlat - Wanted big money, we couldn't afford it
Heatley - Wanted out because he didn't like the direction the team was going/whatever.
Chara - Wanted to stay, couldn't fit both him and Redden under the cap
Volchenkov - Wanted to stay, we wanted to go after a puck-moving D.
