I really don't get why Carcillo thinks he can talk. This the same guy who hid from Reaves not too long ago.

Our puck movement on the PP sucks.

I haven't really noticed much of that, these last two games aside. And I attribute that to our forwards generally being pretty crappy with their puck support and positioning during transition play. When the forwards have been where they should be, his passing has been fine and he hasn't over-carried the puck. All our defensemen have looked relatively bad these last two games...IMO, that's usually a pretty good sign that the forwards are doing something wrong.

Admittedly, there's always more than one way to see these things, but whatever fault is Russell's almost certainly doesn't deserve the amount of criticism he's getting from Blues fans in general. They're (again, generally speaking) treating him like they treat Jackman, and they tend to treat Jackman like he was Matt Walker.

Detroit makes "I'm not picking, honest!" picks better than any team in the league. They've elevated it to an art form.

Ok, so Hitch changed the PP formation and it just isn't working, it's time to change something else. It seems like there are only 2 players/spots that are being involved in it. We need to move the puck more and faster.

It's like our PP is in slow motion.

Yea the, I'll skate slowly in front of you as much as I can, pick. I used to try to do that as a cornerback in high school in freshman ball, but I got called for pass interference.

The wings on the PP are way too high, they need to get lower, to where Berglund was on his one timer.

I just try to judge defensemen the way I was taught to play the game. I try not to judge players based on surface value or upon personal preference.

Also, I am looking past the last two games.

Jackman had a rough year last year, but this year he has been rock solid. He is even making better decisions with the puck. Some of the criticism last year was justified, but many people don't see all the small things Jackman does on a nightly basis.

With Russell, I see a guy who tries to do too much when the simple play is the one to make. Things like making an outlet pass right away, instead of looking for the big play, is an area that Russell needs improvement. It often kills the rush.

On the point, Russell waits too long to make a pass. It causes the forwards to cycle back for the puck. Instead he should send it deep along the boards or take a quick shot.

certainly cant complain about the goaltending! with goaltending like this you can afford some mistakes on offense.

Think we were pretty well outplayed in that period. Fortunately that seems to be Detroit's best period and our worst.

Let's turn it around boys

None of that about "Blues fans in general" was directed specifically at you, just for clarification.

I think we're seeing the same sorts of plays, but just interpreting them differently. I don't have any problems with that, for the record.

This last play seems like a good example of what we're talking about. Russell has the puck and decides to curl back into the Blues zone when he encounters pressure with no clean outlet. He eludes the pressure, passes it to his partner while the team resets, and then they move forward...but against a defense that's now set and with less momentum/room to work with. Alternatively, he could have chipped the puck up the boards (basically his only play at the time), or tried to power his way to the red line through pressure for a dump in (a much more dangerous option at that point), to maintain the momentum of the play in a more north/south style.

What he did was a possession play, very much one like what the Wings would use, but I can definitely see how it could be considered "momentum killing" as well at the same time. Without knowing what Hitchcock prefers in that situation, I don't really know whether it was the "right" or "wrong" play according to what the Blues are trying to do...and, as a result, I think it's perfectly reasonable to interpret a play like that in different ways.

I do think, however, that the sort of things we're talking about is beyond the average fan at the Asylum who is complaining about him. Why do they think he's playing so badly?
