This feels vaguely familiar. Kind of like 2008-2009, keep calling up Dmen to replace the already not so good Dmen because they're hurt. Then the callups get hurt...etc.
Evan Oberg is seriously not that bad. I wasn't super thrilled when gillis traded him to Florida however the move made sense at the time. From what I recall of him he wasn't flashy, but he was also not a huge defensive liability. Standing out as a young Dman 9/10 is not in a way like Doughty or Subban does. I recall him being good at moving the puck which would fit into the TBM system well enough.
Don't expect him to change the franchise, but its not like hes a 29 yr old journeyman AHLer
If Hedman is hurt, we're officially without any top pairing D men. Do we get some kind of award for playing with no #1/2 in our lineup that I'm not aware of?

Yeah, I don't understand this decision. If your going to call the kid up, at least give him a game to see what he can do. Would it really hurt to let him slot in for Kubina, or one of our other defensemen for a game? Don't really think so. We cannot even buy a win right now, so why not give him a try if you call him up?

I think we're trying to have our cake and eat it too. Get him training with the NHL team, for an NHL role, but not while playing NHL games. Methinks SFY is pretty high on Oberg, and feels he's very nearly ready to play for them, but not...quite...yet.
