Cowen and Karlsson: Peanut Butter and you Jelly?

http://senators.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=605047

Pretty much since draft day 2009, I envisioned these two getting together to form a formidable top pairing that would get together for 25-30 minutes a night and be the back bone of what makes us a contender. They've been impressive the past two games and I think it's coming together a little bit earlier than anyone expected. A couple miscues as Mac said, but together they seem right for each other.

Lots of "our version of Keith and Seabrook" going around, but the ying/yang fit Cowsson has is to the extreme. They could be something else in 2-3 years.

Agree. I can't believe it's only Cowen's rookie year. He looks so comfortable out there. Perhaps Karlsson's cool demeanor has rubbed off on him.

in before the family guy peanut butter jelly time video

That article has a couple of fail quotes like this "I like playing more minutes because you're on the ice all the time. It's just a better way to play." from Cowen, and Karlsson "He's a little bit more defensive than me..."

Anyways I'm almost shocked how many people called this the day Cowen was drafted. Like 100% of people knew this would be the pairing of the future the second we heard Cowens name. But I dont know if people ever thought they would get as good as they are going to be as early as it is

Haha the Cowen quote seems like 18 year old NA new comer Karlsson rubbing off on him. "I really do my best to play good, because it is a good thing".

Yeah, it's pretty exciting though. A top pairing like this makes differences...and it doesn't end with these two either. Lots of questions about Cowen coming in at 9th and you had to be thinking "well, if everything goes right, this could be perfect".

Well, everythings going more than just right. So impressed with Cowen's skills, his skating and puck handling is at a level that I hoped he'd get to by 23-25.

Potentially a future 1-2 tandem that could be best in the league.

Now we need to get another Cowen for Rundblad (Reinhart).

If we get a chance to round out the top 4 in this draft, I wouldn't complain one bit.

Murray trolled Burke so hard in the 09 draft.

Was on MPS back in the days where I'd hype a player I've barely seen.

Even after he was scoring last year I was pretty forceful he'd slow down. Not a talented offensive player by skill set.

C'mon guys. I am very, very happy we got Cowen instead of MSP and Kadri, but it is pretty certain Murray wanted Kadri, which was speculated far before Murray said it to Burke himself. Anyone who thinks it was a ploy to make Burke not choose Cowen is fooling themselves.

Reinhart just might be that guy & could be available right around where Ottawa could be listed on draft day. He also seems to fit the criteria at 6'4", 200 plus lbs, left shot, big & tough guy. I believe that he was compared to Shea Weber, high praise, but he seems to be a two way defenceman who can also put up points as well as shut guys down hopefully similar to Cowen.

I would be okay with this guy too though.

I refuse to argue with the almighty backdoorpass.

Even though I know there's the possibility he's lying.

nah Bryan was trolling.

He's smarter than he looks, while it's the opposite for Burke

I am not so sure. Thought was that Cowen would have been gone before Ottawa picked, so they were expecting Kadri or MSP. A rumor I have heard more then once was shortly after Burke told Murray he was taking Kadri, Murray mentioned "we got our guy".

Exactly.

Murray says I'll flip ya.
Burke says he's gonna take Kadri.
Murray leaves, no longer wanting to flip picks.

Do we know what time (or what pick) exactly they were at when Murray and Burke spoke?

I know on a site where homerism and bias is just everywhere in anyones posts....but I mean, I try not to assume I know what happened there either way because THAT IS plausible.

Timing of the conversation matters...discussion prior to that conversation matters. Like if Murray and Burke got together and Murray knew Burke wanted Kadri and Murray still got together to suggest a flip...I'm inclined to think we wanted Kadri.

Also, the suggestion that we wanted Kadri seems very similar to the endless suggestions that we were going to take Couturier.

Alternative conversation:

B: Is Kadri the guy you want?

M: Yes.

B: Okay, you can have him. We want Cowen.

M: ****.

I know that If I was Bryan Murray, I would have been so nervous that Cowen was still available for #9, I would have probably crapped my pants in euphoria

What did Murray have to gain from lying to Burke?

If Murray had said we want Cowen, was that supposed to make Burke want Cowen too? Doubt it.

I'm asking, because anyone that truly believes Murray pulled something probably has a theory on this.

I recommend you don't bother too much with this. Let the children have their fun.

And then hope that Dallas goes off the board to select Glennie? If he really wanted Cowen then he would have pressed Burke even more after Burke told him that he wanted Kadri.

I think the convo came after Dallas picked...the Toronto table got up to select right after the conversation. That detail doesn't exactly change anything though I don't think.
