Need the Texans to hold Sanchez to 35 yards or less in this last quarter. C'mon, boys.

Yikes, that's tough considering this has been the worst game for defense so far.

Their secondary isn't very good atm.

Pretty much everything on my ticket is on pace except for Andre... which I had a feeling I should have taken the UN in the 1st place.

Seriously.

I'm not concerned considering we're generally stacked at every position, but it is indeed a huge loss.

Hopefully Cushing continues to provide great motivation, that's a huge part of his game that he can still help out with. I know nothing of Mercilus, but they should see if he can play ILB or something. If not, trade for someone if they have to.

Rare that any team trades for a LB mid-season expecting him to start... defensive playbooks are usually way too complex to grasp quickly. RB's/ special teams/ depth guys/ safeties in zone schemes makes sense for mid-season trades. Otherwise, it's a huge risk.

They're probably better off filling the position from within, or if they are going the trade route, not to expect much from him for at least 5-6 weeks.

Mercilus cant play ILB. He was a DE in College and is the backup to Barwin as a rush LB. Theybe got Brady James, Tim Dobbins as starters now. Hopefully Sharpton can come off PUP list soon... He was better than Demeco Ryans last year.

I knew Mercilus was a DE, but I kind of thought Barwin was able to play ILB if needed, maybe not.

I'd love to trade a 2nd round pick for a ILB if we need to, this team should be loading up for the SuperBowl.

I guess we have our answer.

Texans sign LB Barrett Ruud. I used to like him, hopefully he still has gas in the tank.

Best comment: "It appears the Texans coaching staff has evaluated the situation and decided that they need another defender with flowing blond hair".

So can anyone explain to me why Ottawa's CFL team can't just rename themselves the Rough Riders and has to ask Saskatchewan for permission to use it?

As I understand it Ottawa(1876) had the name first before Saskatchewan(1910) and then Saskatchewan just used the same name anyways. The new ownership owns the rights to the old franchise/name, so once it is reestablished why can't they use the same name?

If Saskatchewan complains just tell them it is what they did in the first place.

Ottawa did have the name first, but they changed their name to the Senators for a few years, and during that time period Saskatchewan changed their name to Roughriders (note the slight change in spelling) despite the fact that Ottawa and Saskatchewan were in different leagues at the time. Eventually, Ottawa changed the name back, and the two leagues merged together. Fast-forward to after the Renegades folded, and although Ottawa wasn't playing, the league considered them as still existing and sold their rights to Jeff Hunt. Hunt went on to buy the right's to the Rough Rider name from the (at the time) owner of the name, however Saskatchewan executives asked Hunt not to use the name, and Hunt has said he likely won't (out of courtesy, not because he has to).

I personally believe that Saskatchewan executives have no right to deny Hunt's wish to use the name, as they don't own the history of Ottawa's riders, that belongs to Ottawa, and the execs don't even own the Roughriders, as they are publicly owned

Hunt didn't buy the name just for the fun of it.

If I had to guess, he bought it because vintage sells, and owning the old name allows Hunt the ability to market the team's heritage: have a line of "vintage" 'Riders merchandise, have "throwback nights" in which the Ottawa team can wear the old "R" on their helmets and not be infringing on IP rights, etc...

I doubt they'll be called the Rough Riders, but I bet you see a lot of Rough Riders memorabilia out there once the team finally gets rolling. Hunt should easily make back the money he spent on acquiring Ottawa's historical football copyrights without having to actually name the team the Rough Riders.
