I'd much rather have him on the ice than a lazy, unproductive guy, but Dallas honestly has better options.

Pro: Barch will never give up

Con: He's just not that good at anything including fighting for the most part. He usually gets his butt handed to him, he's not reliable on the PK, but I guess at least he can throw a heavy hit every once in a while on the forecheck.

I'm glad he's gone so better players are consistently in the lineup. I honestly am getting to the point that I just loathe enforcers. Give me a guy who can throw punches and play hockey.
Thank you for this.

I wish my avatar was still around as he fit your description. They are just few and far between.

Not sure how credible this guy is but he's suggesting that Barch requested the trade...

Quote:
@*********** There is nothing wrong with a veteran putting in his time and requesting a trade. Krys Barch quietly asked to be moved where he can succeed.
Edit - apparently not very credible since he's banned on here.

That sounds more like a request for an ECHL demotion.

Joes quote supports the idea that Barch requested the trade. I think its legit.

He's not good enough for ECHL... More like LNAH... Or the Belgian Hockey League... Assuming it exists...

I assumed he meant success with fighting. If he wants to actually score goals there's always the local mall but he might want to work on his skating first.

Well I'll say thank you Kris Barch for requesting the trade then. Thank you Tallion for giving us a 5th and thank you Joe for getting that deal.

Barch isn't a bad skater but he's so hamfisted with the puck it's painful. He checks well, and hits hard but isn't the most gifted at cycling the puck, passing, shooting, or even fighting. I don't hate him because he's not talented enough to be any better. I have always blamed the coaches and management for giving him a contract and then playing him. I wish him well but am glad he is gone.

I know I only unlurk once in a bue moon here, unlike the days on the original O and Un boards, but I take issue with the loathing going on here.

Barch is one of the stories you only get with hockey. A guy who had to adapt to move up. He could skate well but wasn't going to be any more than a CHL or ECHL forward until he concentrated on the fisticuffs part of the game. Once he committed he moved up the ladder to be signed as a FA by the Iowa Stars and then by the Dallas Stars. He's the kind of guy that gives you a little hope that someone can overcome the politics of saintly draft position and the genetic freaks of this world.

Who didn't have a bit of fun watching Barch's first few games in the league? Hit everything (on a team that had quit), fight everyone...play with teeth smashed out from a Chelios high-stick. There's something admirable about a player in the best league in the world who still never stops trying to earn his spot. A lot of the current, much more talented, players on the Stars could use a bit more of that giddy-up in their game.

Was he the best player on the team? Hell no. Are there better skaters, fighters, checkers both on the Stars and in the system...yes X3. Am I glad he's off to FL, yes...I think it opens room for others in the system like Vincour, Wathier, Gazdic, Goddard or others who have something more to give...But the hate and vitriol directed at a guy because he's not the best is over the top.

No, I don't dislike Barch as a person, in fact I kinda like him. But he has no place in pro hockey and should have quit after juniors really...

I don't think people Barch as a person, but there's nothing wrong with being happy he's gone and having a roster spot open up for Vincour. He should have never been re-signed.

I remember watching Barch in junior with London, he never had a 100 PIM season and was a fairly productive winger. That he was able to reinvent himself as a tough guy and play in the NHL as long as he has is a real credit to the man. That he also earned an $850,000 one-way deal from the Stars whether he should have or not is saying something.

That said, the Stars needed to do the Nystrom move to get over the floor and they've had some injuries. How does dumping Barch's salary affect the cap situation? Are they comfortably above or might there have to be some more juggling ahead?

Avery is in the NHL, so we're well over the 48.3 mil floor.

Oh boy, what a great day. ManUtd kicked out of the CL, Barch traded, added a 5th rounder. Hahaha!

But that's just it Joel. He didn't play like that ever again. He came up, impressed everyone with his reckless abandon, and then parlayed that into what seemed to be an indefinite roster spot no matter what he did. If Barch had continued to play the way he did when he first had to prove himself I doubt anyone would dislike him or his presence on the team. Of course he probably also would've been badly injured in short order. Then again he did get seriously injured eventually just from being a bad fighter so...

The bottom line is that if you're going to take the spot of someone who can actually play hockey, you'd damn well better be an above-average fighter.
