Chinese Man Kills Himself Because Girlfriend Wouldn't Stop Shopping

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...thes-shop.html
Quote:
A man jumped to his death after a furious row with his girlfriend who insisted they go into another clothes shop.

CCTV shows Tao Hsiao, 38, escorting his girlfriend around a shopping mall in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province, east China.

After five hours Tao finally had enough and demanded to go home.An eyewitness said: 'He told her she already had enough shoes, more shoes that she could wear in a
lifetime and it was pointless buying any more.

'She started shouting at him accusing him of being a skinflint and of spoiling Christmas, it was a really heated argument.'

The shouting match ended when the man chucked the bags on the floor and jumped over the balcony, smashing into Christmas decorations on his way down before hitting the floor seven storeys below causing shocked shoppers to flee in panic.
I'm from China myself, so I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry at this story... a lot of suicides for "unorthodox" reason have happened in China the last few years.

I'm sorry he committed suicide but when I first saw the headline I immediately chuckled. A chuckle of "I feel that man's pain". But seriously, RIP.

I was born in Jinan, China and moved to Toronto, Canada at age 5. I visit my grandparents/aunts/uncles/cousins for 2 weeks - a month every other year pretty much.

To be honest though, I sympathize with the guy. I've been shopping with my girlfriend several times and I probably would've done the same thing if the mall I was in had more than two levels.

Differences between Men and Women Shopping

Men: Oh, my jacket's ripped, I'm gonna go to the store to buy another one. *Walks in, grabs jacket, pays bill, leaves store.*

Women: Oh, my jacket's ripped, I'm gonna go to the store to buy another one. *Walks in, grabs jacket, notices bag that is 20% off and looks at it from different angles for 20 minutes. Then eye is caught by beautiful red dress that is $30 marked down from original price. Wonders if the dress would make her look fat so tries it on in front of a mirror twisting and turning her body in different directions. Repeats this process with shoes, perfume, jewelry, other clothes ect. for three hours before leaving the stores with five bags of goods.*

Wait. . . . Chinese?

In any case, rest in peach good sir. Not sure why you felt the need to kill yourself instead of just dumping her ass, but a suicide like that shouldn't be made fun of (too much).

How reliable is the Daily Mail? There's some thought on the net that it's sometimes a little bit of fiction.

that said this is one of those articles that really brings out the worst in posters.

Basically an opportunity for young men who can't wait to jump on the net and go on and on about how much of a nuiscance women are.

you know what, you commit suicide because of shopping you may have bigger problems.

Not all women love shopping non stop. I usually am pretty quick when I do it, and my place is too small for much more stuff so I'm done for awhile unless sometimes jumps up and bites me pretty much.

The Daily Mail is a vile, racist, xenophobic, women-hating rag of a paper.

If you can't stand women taking forever to shop, then don't have a girlfriend.

Typical reaction of Chinese women nowadays (i.e. crass materialism, gross sense of entitlement.) Guy really should have known what he signed up for.

Before it was segregated to those of means in HK, back when Mainlanders were still riding bicycles. Now that Mainlanders have cash, they get to act out their worse impulses, often times in a worse way.

After all, there is nothing more bitter than the tears of a Chinese woman who failed to bag a rich boyfriend, complete with the accessories of a house in the glitzy neighbouhood, luxury car, and the high-status job. After all, the saying "I'd rather cry in the back of a BMW than laugh on a bicycle" become popular in China for a reason.

"Westernization" some would say. Capitalism depends on commercialism. Perhaps the growing pains of a country where money is becoming more and more abundant and globalization leads to more products being available.

I think Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore (I'm sure I'm forgetting another east Asian country) have all gone through something similar. As a Korean, the focus placed on the image/glorification of designer products and cars in Korea is something to behold. It's quite a bit different than in the States.

Same here . Totally know that ultra depressing feeling of not knowing when you will ever leave a mall. Although with smart phones it's pretty tolerable for me.
