Value of Tuomo Ruutu on NJD

Hey guys, I was wondering what you would think of Ruutu being added to our team. Now, let me say first that i am NOT proposing that we absolutely NEED to make any moves. Obviously this is going to be a very different team once we get TZ back, and it looks as though Josefsen will be back sooner than anticipated as well. However, I think most of us would agree that RW depth is an issue with this team, albeit a relatively minor one IMO.

Carolina is looking like a team who is getting ready to start a rebuild, and Ruutu is a pending UFA, and therefore most likely a trade candidate. I dont think the price to aquire the big Fin would be prohibitively costly, and he is a fairly good playmaker who posseses the versatility to man the pivot in a pinch. He is also adept in the defensive zone, and is a usefull penalty killer and also a plus on the PP. What do you guys think of the prospect of addind him? What would the cost be?

I think we are in a bit of a rebuild ourselves. I don't think Ruutu is one of the guys we need.

I don't see the Devils giving him any value, to be honest.

The cost would probably be a winger prospect and mid round pick

Ruutu would be a good addition at the deadline, if Lou thinks we really have a shot at it. Not sure how much he'd be willing to pay, or how much they'd ask for.

I was thinking:

LW Reid Boucher, D Eric Gelinas and a 5th for Ruutu

Edit: Would create a log jam of Fs though.

Is everyone really willing to take a chance on this clown who has taken many liberties with Devils players in the past on the ice?

Personally, I don't want this piece of crap anywhere near this team(go let him rot somewhere else). PLUS, he's a CANE(he was also part of that team that ripped out our hearts....and I won't go any further in elaborating since many know what I mean)

But that's just my opinion, though.

I'd rather not have anyone associated with the Hurricanes.

That's overpayment on our part, I think. We don't need him that badly.

They wouldn't do that. Parise is a rental, they are a non-playoff team, and they won't trade Skinner.

What, no ? haha

Yeah, I dont really see a need to make a move myself. Just kind of spit balling. IF we did make a move I think it would be along the blueline anyway. IMHO, I really think with Zajac back we will be a playoff team, as long as Brodeur can regain some semblance of his usual self. A stud Dman could go a looong way towards helping him realize that?

To those saying hell no to what I proposed, thats brings up a question I have.

What is the value of Boucher? What kind of potential does he posses? I know a little about him, but probably not enough to include him in a trade proposal. Can anyone help me out?

I think if he hits his development right, he could become a 15-20 goal scorer in the NHL.

Haha....well, youve got me there. Id take that in a heartbeat. Unfortunately I think Parises trade value has taken quite a hit this year, and I dont believe well be able to a return on him that would excite any Devils fans I know. On the plus side, I think hes value on the FA market has also diminished, so when Lou has to overpay a bit to keep him here it wont be quite so bad.

Boucher is a raw prospect with a lot of potential. In the OHL, he is scoring at an impressive rate. His shot is incredible, and his hockey sense and offensive instincts are good. He needs work on most other aspects of his game, like skating and defensive play, and that's why he's still a project prospect. Probably has more value to the Devils than he would to any other team.

Gelinas is pretty much the same way. A project who might turn into something very good if he is developed properly, but probably not making the scouts from other teams jealous just yet.

I would love Ruutu on the team, but at this point it would be best to just wait until free agency instead of trading. Also, at that point I would almost rather spend some money on a goalie or on a defenseman.
