Hey guys, so my friend is going to work in Ottawa for 4 months for her co-op term and she'll be working around Bronson Ave and Highway 417/North of Carling. She's looking for a place to rent for the 4 months. She's not the clubbing kind of person and she's looking for a decent/safe neighbourhood. So could you guys recommend some good neighbourhoods in terms of accessibility to grocery stores and restaurants. She will also be commuting to work Monday-Fridays.
She's found a listing of a place right by St Laurent station. She's also found a listing of a place in Orleans.
We would really appreciate any recommendations and feedback on the areas she's found listings at.
She should live around Centretown, east of Bronson and north of highway 417. There' a Hartman's grocery store at Bank and Somerset within walking distance, as well as a few smaller independent grocers here and there on busier streets. She would be living between her work and the downtown core, and rent is typically less for houses in Centretown versus those to the south of the highway in the Glebe.
Little Italy is a good neighborhood to sublet and find shorter term leases in. It has great access to amenities and culture close to where she works. Beech ave, or anything a block or two from Preston st. would do. It has the added bonus of a light rail stop.
Chinatown has even more affordable rent, and is on the up and up. If she likes sushi, pho, chinese, and the like, then tell her that housing around Somerset and Bronson, from Cooper to Maclaren ish is an option.
She should, if at all possible, look at the place first. Every year we (Carleton students) get told about the scam where you think you are renting a place and pay 1st and last months rent on a place before physically seeing the place (only seeing it over the net) and getting screwed over when you show up and someone is living there.
