Leino Hearing Today, 1 Game Suspension

Per the NHL: http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=605395

I'm going to say he gets three games.

Kunitz got a game for a similar play, so hopefully it's only one.

10 games cause Shanahan hates the Sabres. Bourdon gets nothing cause it was a Sabre (Gerbe) being boarded.

Leino has no past history, so I'm thinking 2 games max. Still not sure what he was thinking on that one,

No hearing for the hit on Gerbe though? Interesting...

Not yet. They're busy today with one for Porter for his kneeing from a few nights ago.

Bourdon should be scheduled for a hearing. Everything he did, boarding/check from behind resulting in a likely concussion to the receiving player represents what the NHL is supposed to be ridding from the game.

Tanj!

I expect two, and nothing for Bourdon.

3 games IMO.

No priors, but a blatant, blatant elbow.

I don't think it's really suspension worthy.
The board wasn't that predatory or anything in my opinion, just a dumb play.

A boarding minor was the right call, but the result was unfortunate.
Gerbe probably doesn't suffer a concussion if he isn't wearing the full cage that makes him more likely to become concussed.

Bourdons play is being blown out of proportion I see.

That was a pretty brutal board from behind, so not really.

Assuming he's suspended, if you would have told me before the season that the Sabres would have three players suspended before the half way mark, I would have laughed in your face.

Even more so, if you would have told me that Brad Boyes and Ville Leino would be suspended for physical play, I would have laughed in your face and probably slapped you.

It was a pretty good hit right in the numbers that threw Gerbe into the boards resulting in a probable concussion. Not sure why wondering if there is going to be a hearing for the hit is blowing it out of proportion. `

How are you coming to the conclusion that the cage made the concussion more likely?

I thought it was widely known that the chin cup makes blows to the head worse because it distributes the energy of the hit to the jaw.

I've never heard that and frankly it makes little sense in this case. Gerbe would have smashed his chin/face right into the glass. I find it hard to believe a direct blow to that area was a better option.

Interesting, that Leino gets a hearing less than 24 hours after the offense. How long was it before Lucic got his hearing? How about Tootoo?

Interesting ...

Not to get in the way of a good conspiracy theory, but there's a good reason:

Lucic/Tootoo happened on a Saturday. NHL offices closed Sundays.

Leino happened on a Wednesday. NHL offices open Thursdays.

Those games were on Saturdays, right? I assume they don't do disciplinary hearings on weekends.
