Well, geth incursions is kind of important for Tali (or, maybe not so much... don't remember if it actually has a carryover effect but at least you get a unique conversation out of it).

Collection stuff can carry over to ME3, at least some of it.

I mean, the Catalyst has a "kill all synthetics" button. Couldn't that just automatically activate whenever synthetics started becoming a problem?

Only if Catalyst/the Reapers are always awake and always persist in the affairs of the Galaxy. They don't seemed to have been designed to micromanage, which makes sense because that would require more of a judgement call more often, which means they have to be smarter, which means they are more likely themselves to evolve beyond their original design, which means they could easily become the thing they're trying to stop. And that's not even going into how much more rapidly AI research would pop up around various civilizations if they were regularly interacting with superadvanced synthetics like the Reapers.

The way they were designed tells me that all of the moral, judgement call choices about their behavior were made by their creators and are unchanging. That's the only way to keep them from evolving into an unstoppable post-singularity force. So with that in mind the creators had a choice to make, and seemed to go with the solution more likely to work out for longer: simple orders, little/no records of the true nature of the cycle, total reset every time. No judgement calls, no pondering the nature of what constitutes life, no moral quandaries, etc.

Plus, that "kill all synthetics" button is kind of catastrophic. Might be a one-time only thing. If you can't use it every time a threat pops up, well, it only takes one to kick off the singularity.

An excellent breakdown of the ending. warning: it's 39 minutes

He brings up some great points: If you kill all the synthetics, does it kill people with biotic implants? Does it kill the Quarians because they use cybernetics to interface with their suits?

Yeah more I think about it the more I hate it.

I mean the scene with the Illusive Man and Anderson was amazing, I was on the edge of my seat. Then it just all goes down hill so fast.

Finished ME1 again last night.
Did Geth Incursions but not the collecting side missions.
Moving onto ME2.

One thing I noticed while playing ME1...

ME1>>>>ME3/ME2

Great find, thanks!

Haven't that post yet because I'm avoiding all video game message boards until I play Mass Effect. People are going to let it drop. If there are spoilers to leak, they leak them. Better just to avoid it altogether.

Will definitely play this one. Love the wing commander series, but the graphics don't hold up so well.

Is WCS a joystick/flight stick-friendly title?

Not sure about a flight stick, but you can use a 360 controller

Just looked it up, saw a mapping screen for flight sticks; the mapping system (even mapping screens) looked awfully familiar, and I now see that it's a Freespace 2 mod/total conversion. Awesome. Freespace 2 was an excellent game. That should make it totally compatible with flight sticks.

EA Sports is now going to allow fans to vote on who should be the cover athlete for NHL 13. They break it down by two players from each team and you vote for who should move in. The Caps two cover players, Brooks Laich and John Carlson . What were they thinking? Why wouldn't they put Nick Backstrom and Alex Ovechkin or even Mike Green?

Here's the link to the ballot

Rating system is errr weird.

MAF is a 90 along with Rinne and Lundqist, even though Rinne and especially Lundqist are in another realm.

How unusual for a video game to have players not rated exactly how we would rate them...

I don't know what they were thinking when they picked those two other than they figured the Caps didn't deserve to be on the cover. Nicky should have been on the ballot and would have gotten a lot of votes, hell Orlov probably would have gotten more votes than Carlson and Laich

I think I want a new monitor. I have a really nice Dell (2008ish Ultra Sharp) but it has a big red line on the far right that's bothering me.

It's a tough slog to figure out which.

SoaSE Rebellion beta got an update on steam today to unlock the Advent factions. Haven't spent much time with them yet though.

Half of the teams seemed to be "Who the **** are these guys and why are they on this list?" reaction for me.

My video gaming has taken a hit.. getting some system lockups and video device driver fail/restarts for the last couple of months. Still haven't figured out if it is the card or something else untoward.

The only answer is to build a completely gratuitous and yet oh so necessary new gaming rig.

Anyone here want to start a club for EASHL NHL 12 on Xbox?

I just recently started playing drop in games, and they're really fun.

I must be out of the loop, because this is the first I've heard of it. But I'm intrigued.

Anyone got a quick synopsis of what to expect, both gameplay/feel-wise and quality-wise?
