something about cnn's 2012 gaming preview confused me.
"'Speaking of saving the universe, "Mass Effect 3" brings back Commander Shepard to resume his battles against the machine race of Reapers. The story is expected to flow directly from the ending of "Mass Effect 2" and will also offer a female version of Commander Shepard for the first time.'"

They're talking about the box art. The Collectors Edition will have both male & fem Sheps
Christmas Break played a major part. Didn't go anywhere, only had a few things to do for family. Since I teach school, I had a 9-10 days off. I didn't play as much as I figured (I expected to get to 50 in the first 5-6) and get a jump on it.
Part of the reason I played the game in the first place.
I only really put in a level or two every other day for this past week. With work, i can't play more than an hour or two every other night (by choice as much as by option).
Either way, I'm probably going to start a Bounty Hunter, and I'll be pretty slow. I might be lucky to get to 25-30 by the time Spring Break runs around.
Me too....leveling is the best part. I don't understand why people rush.
Level 24 Sage...

RE: Old Republic. At 37, myself. Family commitments and virtually no Internet access meant that I spent a full week at Christmas not playing. I'm also completing as much as I can on each world I visit, instead of chasing down the main quest line from planet to planet, which means I'm generally fighting mobs 3-4 levels below me, instead of aiming a level or two higher as I would if I were power leveling... so the XP isn't what it would be otherwise. Not in any rush, though. Enjoying it a lot.
Sage, full healer spec. I think I'd like to start a Sentinel, and a buddy is suggesting rolling Sith characters. Anyway, still a lot of fun. Quest variety, and the thought that went into the quest design, with its multi-stage bonus system, is a hell of a lot better than the grind in most games.
CC2012: Did you toss most of your points into the healing tree, or one of the damage trees? Are you specced for solo or groups?
Mostly healing so far, some telekentics. I'm not that impressed with the healing options honestly. I'll probably retweak my spec at some point.
Little annoyed, I didn't do any of the Taris storyline untill I finished the Nar Shadaa (sp?) stuff. I get to Taris and I'm 6 levels above everything....sucks.

How'd I put that team together or how is it not over the maximum salary cap?
For the 1st question, got rid of a lot of dead weight. Need I mention I never traded Holtby or our two firsts in those deals?
For the 2nd question, yeah, I got rid of a lot of dead weight. Schultz+Ward+Wideman(not dead weight, but you have to sacrifice)+Neuvirth+Poti=$13,712,500
Money for Richards, Prospal, and Suter. Fans here on HF would have a total fit of what they acquired in those deals. I suppose I'll explain my reasoning: Richards: One of my favorite players. Great playmaker, scorer, and he's so great in the playoffs as well. Suter: This should be obvious. Perfect defensive partner for Green. Is physical. Prospal: Good replacement for Ward. He cost $2,000,000 less and puts up better offensive numbers. Johnson: I really don't know. PIT (for some reason) put him on waivers and I decided to get him since he's cheap and a great back-up.
Finally got SWTOR on Friday. Up to level 11 with a Sentinel. Dual lightSabres is quite enjoyable. Thinking about making some kind of trooper PVP build as well.

Ouch, yeah I can see how that would sort of suck. They give you both options at the same time, if I remember. When you're in the Galaxy map, move the cursor over the planets to see the level ranges. Really helpful in figuring out if you're the right level to be running the planet or not. I think that's how I chose Taris to start with over Nar Shaddaa. They give you both at once for the main quest line, and don't tell you as part of the quest chain which is recommended first.
I'm finding that a completionist take through worlds is leaving me overleveled for certain planets when I arrive, but I far prefer that to the alternative: Not enough quests and having to grind in one place just to level high enough to advance to the next.
Wait a few levels. You get an instantaneous heal over time spell (Healing Trance), and an AoE earthquake skill as well.
Thinking of trying this 32/7/2 build for a healing-centric approach.
I wish getting back to your ship was easier. I think that's why I missed Taris. I need a hearthstone to my ship.
Oh well, the storyline is good enough and I'm getting some small exp still, that I'm going to power through Taris still.
That spec looks good. I'm a little annoyed that I'm at level 24 and still don't have a HOT spell like rejuvenate yet. Guess I need to go respec immediately. Put too much into Telekenetics at this point in the game I guess. Brother of my buddy has a sniper and swears by it.
Well I don't usually touch PVP until much later in leveling. The storyline is too good to play anything else right now. How is the PVP though? I'm a hardcore PVPer after leveling.
Uh, I completed pretty much every world quest (except heroics which I often didn't bother with finding a group for). I just played a whole lot. With me being one of like two or three people who live in the area that I work/hang with, it was a pretty boring break. Had a lot of free time. It's not a rush, but I'm also not going to fart around when I can get through it.
PVP's ok I guess. Huttball is kinda fun. The ship one is entertaining, but not really great. It's only really good at 35-50. You have enough spells to compete and don't have to just shock. The problem is, most of these just become a stun lock fest.
I'd be at 50, easy, had I played through Christmas - New Year. With family and work between New Year and Christmas, that stopped me for a while. There are some nutty folks who reached 50 within a few days, but other than that, just hitting level cap now sounds about right. Next class I'm definitely taking a melee character. Ranged is fun, though.

Fallout MMO Rights Officially Restored to Bethesda
Bethesda has emerged the winner in the dispute with Interplay over the Fallout MMO.
The drama surrounding the upcoming Fallout MMO between Bethesda and Interplay has finally concluded, with Bethesda/ZeniMax emerging from the arena victorious. Under the terms of the settlement, the license granted to Interplay to develop the Fallout MMO is null and void, and all rights granted to Interplay to develop a Fallout MMO revert back to Bethesda, effective immediately.
Rolled a few new classes last night. Started a Sith Warrior. LOVE the dark side storyline. The cutscene to start was great (Sith vs Jedi battle). Kinda fun going dark side and answering evil to all the options....
Respecced my Jedi Sage (26)....mostly healing now....little better.

OK, we've seen people chime in on their gaming mice and keyboards...
What about headphones? I'm in the market for a new pair.

Great headphones.
Starting to look for headphones myself. I have an old $70 Creative Fatal1ty headset that is working alright. It's just limited. I have an ancient pair of Sony close-backed headphones that keep on ticking, but the foam covering has peeled all away and I find bits of remaining vinyl from time to time. They're sadly about done, after 10+ years of heavy use.
Settling on Sennheiser, I am debating between the Sennheiser PC350, PC360, and HD598s (the latter isn't a headset, but just sounds like a tremendous set).
Compared to the PC350, the chief differences seem to include richer bass with the PC360, which is also open backed, while the PC350 is close backed. While you arguably get more immersion with close-backed headphones, and much less external noise, the effect between the two designs appears to be that close-backed cans tend to convey the impression that the sound is emanating from within your head. Open-backed headphones do a better job of conveying distance from the sound source, if appropriate. If you can speak to the benefits of these, Chimaera, that would be much appreciated.
Torn. The PC360 is quite a bit more expensive than the PC350 (say, $220 to $175 after a quick search). Rather than make me lean towards the PC350, that makes me wonder if the quality difference is great in favor of the PC360. The HD598 is just supposed to be an awesome set of headphones, but it's not a headset and hence not the greatest purchase for a gamer, who would be likely to go out and buy another set for gaming anyway. It's not terribly practical to get the HD598 and the 350/360. All use 1/8" connectors; the headsets have stereo audio and mic plugs. I've gotten used to the ease of USB designs, so that will take a little getting used to, and some tweaking of levels. Hrmm.
