Team Names The Wild should have been

I don't think I'm alone when I say the "Wild" have the worst team name in all of professional sports (not to mention the ugliest jerseys in the NHL). I've came up with a number of names that they should've been. I'd like your feedback, if you care to opine:

Millers (our state milled more than any other place on the planet in the 19th and 20th centuries).

Miners (Our iron ore was critical in developing the infrastructure of not only the state but the country, especially in the World Wars.)

Muskies (a take on our fishing).

Captains (a take on our Lake Superior and the captians of all the ships that come and go from Duluth).

Seagulls (also a take on Lake Superior.)

Shippers (another take on Lake Superior).

Mountain Lions (we do have a mountain lion populations, albeit small).

Cougars (dito on this species of animal).

Loons (funny, but it's our state bird).

Some more:

Fighting Saints

Governors

Any thoughts?

No. For one, the Twin Cities already had a team named the Millers, and they were a baseball team. For two, sounds too similar to the Milwaukee Brewers, and this isn't Wisconsin.

Miners (Our iron ore was critical in developing the infrastructure of not only the state but the country, especially in the World Wars.)
No. Mining doesnt seem to have anything at all to offer in the way of an NHL name and logo, and I doubt the Twin Cities would identify with it.

Muskies (a take on our fishing).
No. Too fishy.

Quote:
Captains (a take on our Lake Superior and the captians of all the ships that come and go from Duluth).
No. Sports teams have Captains. Dont need a team OF Captains. Also, this is too ripe for jokes from Milwaukee Admirals fans.

Quote:
Seagulls (also a take on Lake Superior.)
No. Who actually likes seagulls? Theyre loud, annoying, and they **** all over everything.

Quote:
Shippers (another take on Lake Superior).
No. Just doesn't feel like something that's easily identifiable with Minnesota.

Quote:
Mountain Lions (we do have a mountain lion populations, albeit small).
No. To similar to the Detroit Lions. I ****ing hate the Lions. Especially now that they're better than the Vikings.

Quote:
Cougars (dito on this species of animal).
No. I dont want my team named after horny middle aged women, even if they are a lot of fun.

Quote:
Loons (funny, but it's our state bird).
No. Canadians will keep thinking we named the team after their damned dollar.

Governors
Fighting Saints would have worked, but thats kind of nostalgic at this point, so no.

Governors? Nobody likes our governors, especially the last 3. Ventura was a crazy wrestler, Pawlenty wrecked the state with his "no taxes at any cost" policies, and Dayton cant seem to get anything done so far.

I dont like them. Those are my thoughts.

All of these are terrible, the name isn't that bad, neither are the jerseys. Get over it.

My thoughts exactly. You never hear anyone complain about the Miami Heat. It's getting old.

Only thing I agree with you is the jersey, and the red home jersey specifically. Away and the alt-jerseys look good, but to me the home jersey is just ugly design.

Also, is Wild the only team that has different template (number & name art etc.) on home and away jerseys? Seems strange to me, I would prefer if they'd just use as a home jersey a colored version of the current away jersey.

Like our original greens? Yeah I thought that one looked awesome too. In fact I thought it was the best dark jersey in the NHL. I wish we'd bring it back.

We should make the 3rd/alt jersey our home jersey, keep the white one as the away jersey and create something new as the 3rd/alt jersey. Current dark red with the alt jersey logo or the bear logo could work.

Wild is a fine name. There isn't anything wrong with it.

I wouldnt mind seeing the current 3rd become the primary home. But It has a real formal feel to it, so I think it should be kept as the 3rd. Just bring back the original greens, and drop the christmas jerseys.

Or perhaps the Minnesota Trappers, to celebrate the great fur trapping tradition of Minnesota.
Wild is fine though.

Imo, i'm ok with WILD, after sometime you just embrace and get over it. I agree that we should let the green ones be our home jerseys. No need to change the road jerseys as well, they are great... but, if we change in something like the 3rd jersey of the Houston Aeros i wouldn't be oppose, awesome 3rd jersey.

When they were seeking ideas for names the one I submitted was Frozen Road Workers to capture both of Minnesota's seasons. Could have had a muscled up dude in a safety vest running a jackhammer with icicles coming off him as the logo.

Yeah... Wild is fine.

As someone who lives in Duluth,
If we were named the Seagulls I think I'd have to slaughter a village.

This seems to come up a handful of times every year. Seems like a troll topic based on the first couple lines too.

Anyhow, based on the alternatives, which we all know are ****, I am fine with the Wild name. I've yet to hear a different name that doesn't sound forced, corny, weak or pathetic.

Wow, I didn't know this forum was filled with such loyalists. No, I am not a "troll," so get over yourself. I just think the name (and of course their horrid rags) is the worst in the history of sports. This thread is done a few times a year, you say? I'd like to see some of those threads. I bet they are good.

Good call on the Heat though, that's a pretty bad name as well now that I think about it.

I personally would have liked Northern Stars or Moose but the AHL team in Manitoba had sort of retained that name and the Dallas Stars were maybe too similar to Northern Stars. Whatever.
