He has 15 goals, 35 assists for a +18 rating in 67 games against the Habs. If he can play that well for Toronto against you guys, I hope for his sake and MTL's that he regains his form.

Maybe he likes pressure? He thrived in Toronto and Montreal is every bit the pressure market Toronto is. Let's face it, even when you're playing for the Bruins there isn't as much pressure on the Bruins as there is for the Patriots/Red Sox, and in Carolina everyone sucks right now.

If we get the Kaberle of the Leafs, this was a genius move. If we get the Kaberla of the Bruins and Canes, well, ****it. I'll take up curling for the rest of the winter instead.

He's got four points in his last two games, so maybe he's starting to turn it around.

nothing in life is "free"...

there's a reason Carolina was so eager to get rid of the guy... it's called buyer's remorse.

They paid up big time to land him just a few months ago, and all it took was 25 games for them to realize that Kaberle wasn't the player they thought they were getting.

hopefully we get lucky, and get the Kaberle you and other optimistic posters think we're getting, but I wonder, will you still be happy if we end up with basically Spacek 2.0... a vet deserving of the occasional scratching?

Look, if we're being honest here, in terms of player for player, as habs4life pointed out, the habs won that part of the deal.

The only bad part is the cap hit over the next couple of years. This will be a bad move if the habs dont find a way to make capspace next year.

Right now, it's a lateral move that has some potential reward. Over the long term its a bad deal.

The media and the fans hate this move. It can only mean one thing. This trade will be the best trade of the Habs history.

I just dumped Kaberle from my hockeypool yesterday.

I'm not sure how to feel about this.

I think some habs fans were saying the exact same thing about Spacek lol

The point is we have GILL in our top 4 right now @ 2.2 million and you people are mad about Kaberle at 2.7? Gill is barely nhl level anymore, His one skill is "being big"!

I don't get it, the gomez move had more people happy about it at the time. I remember getting in huge arguments with piles of people on here.

In terms of an actual deal its not horrible. If you simply look at it as a trade.

My bigger complaint is it truly shows the lack of foresight and direction this team had in the offseason. How many years in a row does this team need to go out and in desperation find someone who can run the PP?

Roll up your pantlegs if you listen to audio of #Habs GM Gauthier re: Kaberle. It gets thick on the floor. Helped Bruins?!

Ya, Gauthier is painting a nicer pciture than what happened.

Look, I was on record before the season starting saying that Kaberle was not that bad in the Boston cup run, so to say that he sucked now would be hypocritical of me. That doesn't mean i think he was ****ing stellar.

Capwise it's a bad deal.

As for you D pairings, i'm wondering if Kaberle has any experience playing the right side?
I don't recall seeing him play the right side much with the Leafs', and not sure about Campoli. We know Gorges has played the right side pretty much every year except this, so he's the logical choice to shift over. If Emelin comes out, I think we should all collectively stop watching.

2011/02/18 Toronto Maple Leafs traded Tomas Kaberle to the Boston Bruins for Joe Colborne, a first-round draft pick in 2011 and a second-round draft pick in 2012.

9 months later:
2011/12/09 Carolina Hurricanes traded Tomas Kaberle to the Montreal Canadiens for Jaroslav Spacek

Then, Spacek = Joe Colborne, a first-round draft pick in 2011 and a second-round draft pick in 2012...

A true steal guys, why you are complaining???

I have faith Gauthier or anyone whomever's in charge will get rid of Gomez's contract if it gets in the way of signing our important players.

Habs have been eager to get rid of alot of guys who've moved on to have more success than they ever had in Montreal

Kaberle was signed in Carolina to lead their defensive corps which was already weak to begin with.

Rutherford shot himself in the foot with that one...the situation is entirely different in Montreal.

Yes!

Picture this: Markov comes back in two months. Markov-Kaberle becomes the best PP duo in the league. It's too late in the season and we're not on track to make the playoffs. A legit contender (like Boston last year) gives us a 1st for him at the trade deadline. Then we traded Spacek for a 1st. JM and PG get fired. We get a lottery pick.

It's win-win-win-win!

Dude, once Boston saw how bad Kaberle is they decided not to re-sign him at all, despite paying through the nose for him.
