Roman Horak assigned to Abbotsford Heat

Link

I thought this was a bit strange...considering they told him that he was going to be on the big team for the season? Anyway, should be good for his development to play some in the A. Maybe this will help Howse out as well?

Edit: I would had preferred he stayed up with the big club, but it's better for him to play than sit in the press box while Morrison is out there.

Horak sent down to AHL.

http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=605644

Thoughts?

This is the stupidest thing the Flames have done all season. Stajan should be sent down.

I guess this means a trade or Moss coming back soon.

Yeah exactly.

Way rather he be getting quality ice-time in ABB then riding the pine. With how BMo has come back and with Stajan finding a groove on the 4th line Horak is the odd man out.

I'm sure we'll see him again very soon.

Pretty much reiterating what was already said.

However, i am not too sure he'll be back any time soon. It will take a couple roster moves to make room for him as we still have David Moss coming back from injuries. We may not see him again till march. Hopefully he lights it up in the AHL for a while and comes back more confident, and with a more available role.

Sucks, but it is what it is on the business side - good on Feaster to send him down sooner rather than later.

...Man. I wonder how a Glencross-Horak-Baertschi second/third line would look next season.

What would that make the 1st line then?

It certainly sucks to see Horak sent down, but I'd rather he get some quality time in Abby than leftover minutes in Calgary.

If nothing else, maybe he can kick start Ryan Howse.

Backlund, Morisson, and Stajan finally started to outplay him. He'll be back though.

I was starting to be concerned about the number of spots relative to to bodies we have but in some ways I guess that players fighting to be in the roster isn't a bad thing. Hope Horak takes it in stride and comes back with renewed enthusiasm.

Probably Tanguay-Backlund-Iginla

This would likely change barring Jokinen being resigned, addition of a FA, trade, etc..

Didn't Feaster tell Horak to start looking for housing not too long ago because he'll be staying with the big club?

Not a huge surprise. Kid wasn't expected to crack the lineup prior to training camp.
Good job on Horak for turning some heads, and giving us hope for the Flames future.

He did stay with the big club for a couple of months. I think that's long enough to tell someone they should stop living out of a hotel, pro athlete or not. A hotel is an expensive bet for that period of time.

Sucks for Horak. I loved his game while he was up, and I'm hoping that if we do ship out a lot of bodies at the deadline we see him back up.

On the other hand, I agree in the hopes he can spark some offense in Abbotsford. Howse would probably love to have him back at this point.

This good for his game. He gets to be the go to guy in Abbotsford. Big PP minutes and lots of ES icetime matching up against the other team' best lines.

I'm okay rolling with these misfits until the deadline. Then, you make some major changes and bring up Horak, Byron, Nemisz, etc.

I thought Feaster told Horak to find a house in Calgary because he's staying here the whole year

guess not

He is a great prospect, but in no way a game changer. I think that was sarcastic, but just in case, I thought I'd give my opinion.

Actually I wasn't for once

Hes not a game changer, but he does a bunch of little things right. I think he is one the pieces of the Flames winning any games this season. Obviously its not like we took Iggy out of the lineup, but I think Flames are a better team with him in the lineup.

Everyone has to realize that as long as kipper is on this team and stays healthy we won't be in the bottom 5 overall in the league, well a very good chance of not being there anyway.

For Mr. Horak, go where you can get as much ice time as possible, and right now with Bmo making a statement and backlund & stajan playing good, the ice time isn't with the flames, but the minute someone is hurt or drops off for as little as one game, bring Horak back.

He's not overly gritty per say, but he doesnt shy away from contact at all, and isn't afraid to get dirty. I think he'll be a great addition to an already pretty good abby team for the time being.

Its sucks that he got sent down, but at the same time, he needs to get ample ice time to develop his offense, his defensive game is there for sure, but some top minutes and pp time should help him out big time. I dont expect him to be down for long
