From Joy:
Patrick Wiercioch will be transported to Upstate Medical Center soon, per an anonymous source. #BSens #Sens

Whats the difference between the two hospitals?? Aren't both in Binghamton (or at least near).

Is the move to be at a higher acuity hospital/better hospital? Or is it because he is better?

Scary especially after that one kid in Alberta died after a puck to the throat.

See that's what I wanted to see. If he needs to be in a trauma centre. Could be more serious or just that they have a specific team that deals with ENT (ears/nose/throat) better than the other.

Edit: On a random note -- could have only been transferred because he has a breathing tube (most small hospitals around here don't even deal with breathing tubes, they will put them in, stabilize them and send them off to a better centre).

This is horrible news. I was having such a great day until I read this. God, I hope the kid pulls through.

It seems like a top trauma centre so its likely the best place for him.

Well its a Level 1. Which is the best. But the other hospital he was at had nothing, nor an ICU. So I wouldn't be shocked if he had to go regardless due to the breathing tube, as most hospital staff from smaller hospitals aren't educated in how to deal with them. So if they say he's stable, I'd side on the optimistic side of things.

But I hope he gets better, its gonna be day to day and hope they keep people updated!

Get better Patrick!!

Crazy ****. Hopefully just a bunch of bruising and swelling that will pass quickly.

Probably too early to ask this, but how long does it take to recover from an injury like this? Also, how long would he be out for?

There's no concrete information on what exactly his injury is, or the extent of it. In a worst case scenario this could end his career.

What is said below.

If it is just bruising and swelling, then it will slowly get better, but still probably take a few weeks.

If there is any tracheal damage/vocal cord damage... could be months and months (could end up being trach'ed and could be a career ender).

I would say in the next 2-5 days we should know time lines.

Wish him all the best! Glad he's in a good place!

Fron Joy:
Coach Kleinendorst confirms Patrick Wiercioch was being transferred upstate to see a throat specialist. Still stable. #BSens

The full extent of Wiercioch's injury is not yet known, but #BSens are confident he is in good hands.

Most important is Patrick. Anything else comes later. Just, Patty I wish you a full and complete recovery.

I never want to hear of this happening to anyone.

I'm hoping that everyone here is just overblowing things due to the lack of information. Really really hoping.

From the Sun:
http://www.ottawasun.com/2011/12/10/...-hurt-in-bingo

Patrick Wiercioch is on the road to recovery.

The 21-year-old Binghamton Senators defenceman took a puck in the throat Friday night in the club’s 5-1 loss to the Norfolk Admirals and was immediately taken to hospital.
.................................................. ............................................
“Patrick is in hospital and is in stable condition,” said a statement released by the Senators Saturday night.

It’s believed the Senators are waiting until Wiercioch’s parents have arrived from British Columbia before releasing more details.

Maybe I'm misremembering, but wasn't there a Canadiens player years ago who took a puck to the throat in the process of blocking a shot?

My thoughts exactly.

All the best to the Wiercioch family right now. Hockey's got to be way down on the list of priorities right now. Get well, worry about everything else later.
