Ansar Khan: Red Wings might be facing decimated Penguins team, as Evgeni Malkin, Jordan Staal questionable

Quote:
PITTSBURGH -- The Detroit Red Wings could be facing an extremely decided Pittsburgh team tonight at the Consol Energy Center (7 p.m., Fox Sports Net Detroit).

Already missing star Sidney Crosby (post-concussion symptoms) and top-four defensemen Kris Letang and Zbynek Michalek, the Penguins could be without centers Evgeni Maklin and Jordan Staal as well.

Coach Dan Bylsma said after today's morning skate that Malkin (undisclosed) and Staal (lower-body injury) are game-time decisions. Malkin has four points in the past two games and is tied with James Neal for the team lead with 28 points. Staal didn't play in the last game.

"Don't have any details on Geno (Malkin), can't tell you what the lineup is going to be like,'' Bylsma said.

Red Wings coach Mike Babcock said the potential absence of Pittsburgh's top three centers won't affect what he's trying to do with match-ups.

“The good thing about it is I don't have to make any of those decisions,'' Babcock said. "I'm going to put my guys out on the ice and then he's going to follow, so (Bylsma) can make all those decisions.''

Sorry for the delay. Stupid glitchy HF wasn't posting the thread for some reason.

Anyways, welcome to Concussion-ville Red Wings. Now this Pens team is cursed. No Crosby, no Letang, no Michalek, Staal and Malkin are game-time decisions. You'd think the Wings could manage to beat such a depleted team, but you never know.

Oh and Jason Williams is back. Watch him snipe it from the point on the PP tonight. Useless ****er.

Enjoy the game, I'll probably only be able to catch the first. Apparently one needs to have a conference call at 8 am to get paid. Who knew?

They have not played well on the road this year, but I expect them to beat a Pens team that seems unlikely to ice 2 of their top 3 centers and probably none at all. Get ready to watch Pittsburgh pack it in and hope for a shootout result. It is what Bylsma does better than any other coach in the league when he is short handed.

There really is no excuse for the Wings if they lose this game.

It's an AHL team.

Well he doesn't have a dance partner. I would hope his boss goes on one of his embarrassed to be associated with the sport of hockey if his goon behaves that way tonight. I doubt it, but his presence makes me weary especially if the Wings start blowing out the AHL squad they are going to face tonight.

Or he will just run around at every guy because no one can stop him. Guy is a beast and doesn't care who he hits. That's his job. Should be intresting.

If you need any further proof that Bylsma and Fleury are legit...this team keeps winning without Crosby, et al. The Wings are below .500 on the road...this is going to be a tough one to win even with their injuries.

Too bad the Penguins dont have an NHL defense to win. You are correct that they did win without Crosby and the rest of the offense but the defense is what kept them in it. That defense is now seriously injured too.

If the Wings play hard, they will win. If they treat this like a free win, they will lose.

Wings will probably win this one but it probably won't be the blowout all those injuries would suggest

expecting the Penguins to grind out a close one and lose by no more than a couple goals

Just do both at the same time? Study during TV timeouts and intermissions.

I was thinking that as well. I just won't be able to give it my full attention.

Anyway, i'm getting off the computer and back to work now before the game...

The Pens have had our number lately, so we better show up tonight. Obviously, there is no reason to lose this one with the talent we have.

So we're gonna go another umpteenth amount of games til they use Conklin again. I don't want Jimmy burnt out by the end of the season.
