Final Fantasy Thread.

I was bored and decided to make a FF thread.

The newest FF game is XIII-2. Looks cool even though I haven't played the first XIII.

My favorite FF would have to be X.

So, I guess have fun talking about Final Fantasy.

I'm actually in the middle of going back and playing the final fantasy games that I never played before. Working on 8, 9, and 12. Playing 12 right now. It's not too bad. The combat system that is supposed to be more free actually feels more restrictive though.

January 31st for North America. I haven't been paying much attention to it until recently when I started reading a lot more about it. It sounds awesome.

I hope the combat system is a little more interactive in terms of utilizing your entire party yourself. In FF13 I felt like I was just some overlord looking down on the battlefield and giving the party strategies on what to do, but not really playing the characters directly myself. I still had fun with the game, but it's definitely not the greatest combat system.

I really liked the 13 combat system because it was active and automated the same-old same-old that I've been doing for 17 years now. If you're playing that game properly, by the later chapters you're switching your paradigms every 12 seconds. That's way more active than they had been for a while. Also, putting together your 'deck' of paradigms was pretty interesting too, more strategy than maybe anything since junction.

For some really strange reason, I keep getting about 2 hours into FF XIII and then I stop and play something else. It's fun to play, I'm liking the story, the graphics are excellent, seems like it's a game I should love but I've played up to the 2 hour mark about 4 times now and the same thing keeps happening...

FFXIII was alright. Looking forward to: FF X HD and Versus. Type-0 for PSP looks pretty good too.

Love the series, I think this was the first Rpg games I ever played.
Though I greatly dislike FFX-2, and FFXIII. Can't say anything about XI or XIV, apparently the latter is supposed to have a port being made tbr in 2013, seems unlikely.

I actually loved the combat system in FF13. It was the only thing that kepts me playing it for the amount of time I did because I really wasn't at all interested in the story and I found the characters to be annoying.

FF10 is one of my favorite games of all time. That, Mass Effect 3 and Skyrim are probably the few non strategy or sports games that I played obsessively. Auron is still one of my favorite video game characters of all time.

My favorites, I despise XIII you can beat the whole game by pressing one button. I'm looking forward to some of the revamps to FFXIV though, that game overall as an MMO was pretty disappointing.

As soon as my exams are over, I'm going to start playing Reishiki.
Anyone else?

The one where they cast Meg Ryan as the main character was pretty cool. Although, the American releases of II and III are my personal favourites.

Oh yes.

Top 5

Could easily be swapped
IX
X
--
IV
VII
XIII

XIII-2 looks good and still waiting on more updates for Versus.. X HD will be sweet.

I'll give them major credit for not remaking FF7 yet.

Seems like the easiest cash cow in the world, during a time when everything is being remade or rebooted.

They released them in america ?
I know III had a DS port recently, but I didn't know about II...
I have to play these two someday, but I'll probably go the translated ROM route

The reason they gave earlier this month made a lot of sense.

People forget the scale of 7. That world WAS HUGE.

If they remade FF7 with the free roaming world after Midgar it would take half a decade.

Sure they could do it episodically like 13 but the backlash would be terrible.

I meant the American titles II and III, which would be... V and VI in Japan?

II and III (American) were my favourites. Cecil, Kain, Edward, Shadow, Terra etc. Those were good times.

Oh... Well, you said "the american releases of II and III", so I thought you were talking about the actual FFII and FFIII being released in america...
And it's FFIV they named FF2, not FFV
