Actually he is the obvious pick to hold the captaincy for the next 2 years or so until it is passed on to one of the young guys.

Not necessarily. Remember Crosby returned as well after that hit in the Winter Classic and then missed 10 months.

Yup. Supposedly had an all world goalie. One of the best D's in the league. Balanced scoring attack. Yet despite never finishing with fewer than 90 points, they crapped the bed every single year in the playoffs.

What in your estimation makes him an incredible captain?

Oilers have a few of em: Peckham, Tuebert, Musil, Plante (to a lesser extent), they just need a sweet bluechip D prospect for decent depth.

this is a fun thread

curious to know why no one is bashing EBERLE and RNH for not having good nights and missing their checks and not getting on the score card?

Didn't Belager also miss shifts as well after Iginla's cross check as well. Didn't someone mention they hope that Belanger wasn't injured. Wasn't Belanger also hit from behind in the St. Louis game.

More than anything they just seem to play scared against the Flames and just lack a confidence that they have against other teams. The Flames smell blood, knock us down and sit on us.

I was at the game last Saturday and thought it was going to be a streak buster when we got those two quick early goals. But no, Calgary pushes back with two quick ones and we crap our pants. Just like earlier this season when we blew a very winnable game against them. IT'S SO FRUSTRATING BECAUSE CALGARY IS NOT GOOD. It's so annoying watching them lose to all these other teams and then they own us.

Good thing I took my lovely wife out for dinner and didn't have to see 95% of this game tonight.

He promised me a playoff spot a few months ago. He's likely said a lot that would be classified as stupid.

Actually Dubnyk wasn't great but the Oilers gave Carolina at least 10-12 grade A scoring chances.

They were well rested and were completely out classed against the worst team in the League...on home ice...with Carolina playing their 2nd game in 2 nights on the road.

Tough to defend a performance like that.

They both had bad games but as good as Nuge is I don't expect 18 year olds to carry NHL hockey teams. When things are bad guys like Whitney, Smyth, Horcoff and Hemsky have to pick them up and they failed time and time again.

He single handedly destroyed the Oilers tonight - as he has down throughout his career against many teams. Why the bashing on Iglina? The guy has been a great player throughout his career and has done everything on most nights to ellivate his team. How awesome would that be for the Oilers? I hope that in the future Hall can have that same impact.

Was just gonna mention that. When has Horcoff ever truly lead the Oilers to a victory? When has he ever turned the tide of a game when it was not looking good for the Oilers? A captain should be capable of doing something to affect the outcome of the game in his team's favor. Horcoff is not capable of such feats whereas other captains are.

And the worst part, Renney still tried to blame the schedule on that loss.
