I never knew thats what Jesse Rogers looked like. It sounded like he has no interest in trading for another goalie and its nice to hear that he's talking to plenty of teams. Still way too early for any major deals though, plenty of hockey to be played.
Bowman needs to wait until a team is desperate enough that they start to unload some of their decent players and then swoop in quickly before any of the other teams get involved. There will probably be 4 to 5 sellers come the deadline.
I don't think we need a goalie. Crawford can sit. This to me is normal. Quenneville always gives the backup one opportunity to go on a win streak. There is no goalie controversy, and there will not be one. Am I saying Crawford will be the starting goalie in the playoffs? Not quite. But I think he steps it back up and plays big after Emery gets his time in net.
Our Phantastic Four: Toews, Hossa, Kane & Sharp have progressed and all are on pace to have their best numbers in Indianhead sweaters. I wouldn't mind another forward or 2nd line center...I just wouldn't call it a need. I think we have a 50-50 shot of adding a piece to the offense. It wouldn't surprise if we got a older rental on the last year of his deal. It would surprise me if we added a young rising talented forward.
Defense is really the only spot that I would say for sure we need to upgrade in order to be a contender. I'm not super worried about this...Keith & Seabrook (one or the other were down) in 5 of our losses. We should play with what we have the whole month of January. If there is an injury we have Rockford, a few guys could use a callup and be tested. I think making a trade before February is way to soon unless an injury forces us to make a trade earlier.
There is not much we need as a team. Right now we just need to stay in the top 3 contenders of the Western Conference and continue to add points. Patience is fine for now. We have cap room so you know we will add a player. It will be a defenseman.
Our biggest upgrade needs to come from within. Usually I'm not for this sort of thing, but I think it's time Bowman puts some SERIOUS heat on Quenneville. The defensive scheming is a disaster and has been for 2 years. Although the PP has started to come around, our special teams are still wanting. We consistently have horrendous line changes which falls squarely on the coaching staff. It's about damn time the staff is held accountable for the slew of serious gaffes and faux pas.
Adding guys can help, but does anyone really think it will be the answer? I look at this team and see a glut of talent and guys that are more than capable of shoring up the current deficiencies. We have guys that should excel on the PP. We have guys that should be able to defend at a better than average level. On paper (and on the ice) we lack a true 2nd line center (that can win FOs hopefully) and physicality. These are far from the reasons, however, this team struggles to play sound defensively and look like a cohesive team on a nightly basis. That problem lies behind the bench.
