Whether you think Green gets an equally surprising raise will depend on whether you think there will be a market for RFA signings and what you think the market will be like for competing pieces (e.g. Suter etc.)
Fuuuuuuuuu forgot he was an RFA. Never mind then.

GMGM said the specialist Green is seeing isn't necessarily for his groin.

I agree .... it;s impossible not to speculate it's concussion-related.

i think it is for the groin and the travel schedule backs that up. the groin specialist is in vancouver and the team is reporting that green will join the team on this road trip to winnepeg and then denver.

i see no way that he plays, but it sounds to me like he is seeing the groin specialist out west, then join the team get some supervised workouts in that are recommended by the specialist. this is a multi day visit with this specialist which i guess includes tests and workouts over a period of days.

thats just my read though

I thought I heard an update on him today on tsn montreal but missed the part when they said what was wrong, I think it was some sort of update as to what's actually wrong with him, anyone on here know any more?

You sure it wasn't today's injury report on Jeff Green?

what they were re reporting was that green was rejoining the team on the road. that sounds like he is ready to play while the reality is that he is not ready to skate even.

He's entered Tom Poti territory, nobody will ever know what's really wrong with him. The NHL needs to follow suit with the NFL and have full disclosure.

A lower body injury can be anything from a broken toe to complete paralysis of below the torso, it's ridiculous

I really hope he finds a way into the lineup in early January after the holiday break. I can't help but think that's some naive optimism though.

they have been pretty clear about what happened to poti. he fractured his pelvis and it went unreported and untreated. it healed out of line which resulted in movement of his groin muscle and tendon.

green has a groin injury resultant from contact. we all saw the knee drive into his inner thigh. its not a pull. its a contact injury

reading the news on this, it backs up that green is in vancouver. that is where the groin specialist that sutherby, clark and poti saw. it goes with the player joining the team in winnipeg. it however does not jive with any idea that he might play on this trip. he stopped skating and went to a specialist. he's not playing anytime soon.

Did you hear anyone state that Green was in Vancouver or simply that he was out of town seeing a specialist? I think it's as likely if not more likely he was in Colorado or near there, but didn't hear anyone report where he actually went. As to joining the team, all signs point to Green joining the team in Denver not Winnipeg.

Agree he's not playing anytime soon based on everything known. He's still on the active roster, but he has missed enough time (both in terms of games played and roster days since his last game) that he can go on IR or LTIR retroactively and be available to come off and play as soon as he is ready.

no. vancouver was just my analysis. vancouver also fit the road trip. as his rejoining the team had nothing whatever to do with him playing.

a quick search and i did find the following from the washington examiner
Okay, so here’s what we have on Capitals defenseman Mike Green. He was indeed at a local airport Sunday night. He left town to see a specialist on his injured right groin – thought the team did not disclose where. There are prominent groin specialists in Vancouver, St. Louis and Philadelphia. This organization has seen too much of that in recent years with former captain Chris Clark and current defenseman Tom Poti, who missed most of last season and remains on long-time injured this year with a serious groin injury. Green will join the team on the road when it travels to Winnipeg to face the Jets on Thursday.

You answered the question, Vancouver was an assumption on your part. From what I have seen and heard, there's no indication he went to Canada or joined the team before they arrived in Denver. It's possible he saw a specialist in Denver and was there all week or somewhere else in the midwest or could have been out west, but it's an unknown.

Green was making progress in his recovery from the groin strain when he slammed his stick into the boards on Dec. 8 as he went off the ice. Shortly after that incident, which the team insisted wasn’t a setback, the Capitals sent Green to Minnesota, according to people familiar with the situation.

The program involves a machine called the ARPwave, which sends electrical current through targeted areas of the body in conjunction with controlled movement, to help promote recovery from injury. The ARPwave is not widely used, but is growing in popularity among professional and college athletes to speed rehabilitation, keep muscles relaxed and refresh tissue.

According to league sources, Capitals’ assistant general manager for player personnel Brian MacLellan owns and uses an ARPwave machine. Boston goaltender Tim Thomas is one player who has publicly acknowledged his use of the system and thanked its developers when he accepted the Vezina Trophy in 2011.

Not good from Green:

Mike Green on the groin strain: "I think I’m going to have to be cognizant of this for the rest of my career, probably."

More Green: "I don’t think I’ll be 100 percent for a long time, I’ve just got to get to that stage where I can play."

Am I reading that post right. Is it saying Green hurt himself slamming the stick and not on the initial contact? Perhaps its jsut poorly presented or, as usual, I'm an idiot.

I think its saying he slammed the stick into the board in pain/frustration realizing he had injured himself.

Its worded very poorly.

Edit: Actually I can't make sense of that sentence at all.

Pretty sure it means he slammed his stick out of frustration. Katie Carrera is a great writer. I don't like her because of her style.

He got hit. Continued to play. Then went off slamming his stick. Not sure if he injured it on hit... aggrevated it by playing. Then slammed stick as he left. Then re-aggrivated it later.

Who knows. All I care about are his two statements. HOPEFULLY gmgm is as worried as we are.
