Well, Hämeenlinna and Winnipeg are more or less on the same latitude (about 10° apart) so he should be used to the weather.

On the other hand, Winnipeg is 4 points ahead of Tampa Bay in the standings (with a game in hand) and 1 point out of a playoff spot.

Just sayin'

Yeah but thats my point. He was coming to a tropical area and now is going basically right where he was before.

You know, I think the waiver rule needs to be changed. Basically, it should only be the teams that are below the signing team in the standings that have the option of claiming the signed player. Makes no sense to allow teams ahead of the signing team to claim someone.

Ah my young Winnipeg friend. You know where the Thrashers were around this time last year? Or the year before? Pretty similar situation.

Not to mention that would TB at only 5 points out of a playoff spot. Not exactly a mountain to climb.

Just sayin'

By far the dumbest rule in the CBA. We do all the negotiating and contract talks, yet we don't get the player. Team that puts in the claim essentially gets a free player.

How ****ing lame.

Could someone tell me what was the order of teams where Miettinen would have went, assuming TBL made the deal and all 29 teams wanted him as well. Was TBL #30 and the rest 29 in reversed order of standings or...?

reverse order of the standings after November 1st (or 15th?). As the waiving team we do get to claim, but just get if he passes.

Winnipeg will get whats coming to them. Anybody see TB claiming a WPG player after he is signed? Or maybe signing one of their free agents for payback?? I do. Maybe not this season though.

So the current standings matters nothing, it's only what was on certain date of November? Why such a rule?

No its the reverse standings as of the day he was signed. The November 1st is the date that it changes to that. Before that it would have been the reverse standings as of last season.

I think I finally understood it. The key is that Miettinen was TBL player, just for some hours, but still.

Hope Winnipeg fails.

This is nothing more than to prevent us from upgrading our roster. They no have place for Miettinen especially when Antropov and Fehr are in the lineup. What pisses me off is that we're only in the same division for the rest of the season and it's a 2 year contract. Jets didn't do **** all offseason as far as signings but now they suddenly have a hole in their lineup..

Lame.

True.

When your star signing of the offseason is ****ing Tanner Glass I guess this is the way you have to do business.

That ****ing sucks. Not saying he's our savior, or even that he'd work out, but damn.

Well it was a first step to improving a failing roster, but now we're right back at square one thanks to a rookie GM pulling a dick move.

A Latvian! Claim him for nothing more than to bring back all the Latvian posters we had during the Martins Karsums era.

If we can't have a Finn we must have a Latvian.

You know, maybe this was Yzermans plan. To sign him and expect him to get claimed which would flush out another player and expose them to waivers to make room for the claimed player. Looks like Kulda is that player. Get him.
