Who are we building around?

Am I the only one who feels like we are building around a weaker core than the other teams? Maybe there are 2 or 3 teams like Phoenix, Winnipeg and Florida are in the same situation.

Are we building around Price? Cause sitting on a goaltender isn't a solution IMO.

New Jersey Devils - Building around Parise, adding pieces like Larsson.
New York Islanders - Building around Tavares.
New York Rangers - Alot of players to build around with star players. (Del Zotto, Anisimov, Stepan, Dubinski, Callahan, McDonagh..../w Richards and Gaborik)
Philadelphia Flyers - Building around Giroux, JVR, +
Pittsburgh Penguins - Built around Crosby, Malkin, Fleury... Won Cup.

Boston Bruins - Build around Chara, +. Won Cup.
Buffalo Sabres - Alot of good players there again. Vanek, Pominville, Roy, Miller. Myers soon to be elite.
Montreal Canadiens - Uh? Price? I don't think Subban and Pacioretty are elite material.
Ottawa Senators - Tried to build around Spezza. Now have Karlsson, Cowen, Rundblad, Zibanejad to start over.
Toronto Maple Leafs - Trying to build around Kessel.

Carolina Hurricanes - Built around Staal, Ward. Won Cup. Now have Skinner.
Florida Panthers - Building around Kulikov, Gudbransson?
Tampa Bay Lightning - Built around St-Louis and Lecavalier. Won Cup. Now have Stamkos, Hedman.
Washington Capitals - Ovechkin, Backstrom...
Winnipeg Jets - Ummm. Is Kane, Byfuglien, Endstrom and Little elite material? Not sure.

Chicago Blackhawks
- Built around Toews, Kane. Won Cup.
Columbus Blue Jackets - Trying to build around Rick Nash.
Detroit Red Wings - Built around Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Lidstrom. Won Cup(s).
Nashville Predators - The Big Three. Weber, Suter, Rinne.
St. Louis Blues - Pietrangelo, Shattenkirk, Berglund, Oshie, Backes, Stewart...

Calgary Flames - Tried to build around Iginla.
Colorado Avalanche - Duchene, Stastny, Johnson, Landeskog.
Edmonton Oilers - Hall, Eberle, RNH.
Minnesota Wild - Around Koivu?
Vancouver Canucks - Sedin's.

Anaheim Ducks
- Getzlaf, Perry. Won Cup.
Dallas Stars - Eriksson, Benn.
Los Angeles Kings - Kopitar +
Phoenix Coyotes - Keith Yandle. Forgot him. (Thanks Habs 4 life)
San Jose Sharks - Thornton, Marleau, Pavelski, Boyle.

They aren't superstars(but not many players are) but the Habs definitely need to build around Price, PK and Pacioretty

What in the world do you mean they aren't elite material? Yet guys like Cowen, Hedman are? Bassed on what? See that's your problem right there. Some of those players you mentioned aren't even in the same age bracket.

Price, Subban and Pacioretty are an excellent core to start a team with.

I'd take Price and Subban as cornerstones over a lot of the teams you listed.

I think this is a case of the grass being greener on the other side. Price/Subban is a pretty strong core to build a team around for a team that hasn't had multiple top picks like a lot of the teams you listed.

We're still searching for a top-flight offensive gun but that's been the case since the 90's, so...

We aren't building around any of the high priced talent, that's for sure.

I think Keith Yandle would fit the description. Not sure why he didn't list him

Why don't you just give your opinion. No need to "bash" on me. I'm a Habs fan. I just like this avatar and Pittsburgh as well.

I'm talking about building around. Cowen is a #9 overall pick. Of course, Ottawa aren't at the same step as we are.

Pacioretty, Plekanec, Price, Subban is just as good as around a dozen of those teams you listed.

It can definitely be better though.

Not really bashing.
You want opinion? i think your skewed view of habs makes you rate Del Zotto, Anisimov, Stepan, Dubinski, Callahan, McDonag as start players (lol) and underrate our core of price, pleck, patches and subban. And st Louis core is also highly overrated (considering their best player is Alex Steen right now lol)

Best player doesn't mean "stats" St Louis best player is by far Alex Pietrangelo

PRICE , PRICE , PRICE .....period

pk as of yet has only shown flashes , disappointed he hasnt taken his game to the next level yet , we were talking about a Norris candidate , hasnt played anywhere near that level

Max is solid , but more a Holmstrom type quality player , do you build around ...no

just like Holmstrom , he can be a solid piece when you have 3 studs in Lidstrom ,
Datzyuk and Zetts.

Max cant be one of your top 3 players to build around , we dont have the front line studs like Malkin , Crosby , Letang

This is a very superficial post. Canes built around Staal and Ward to win the cup? Rangers building around Dubinsky? Maybe I don't understand you.

But this post follows a common theme amongst most habs fans that it is negative. You question whether Pacioretty and Subban are elite but don't question anyone else. Shattenkirk? What team builds around Shattenkirk?

You build around a player and a concept. I don't really think Gauthier's concept is that clear but we are building around Price and defense first mentality with Martin as a head coach.

I don't know about best player by fay, but I agree with the point of the post. Pietrangelo is one the guys I would consider taking ahead of Subban. Points don't mean everything but some people just don't get it.

Price, Subban, Gorges and Pacioretty. By this time next year, I might add Eller to that list, but not yet. In any case, not a bad core to build around. Not Edmonton, but not bad either.

Edmonton only wished they had a Carey Price and PK Subban. Don't get me wrong they have 2 young superstars in Hall and Hopkins but I'm not sure it's going to be enough to win them a cup.

Price is a great piece to build around. Guys like Patches and Subban are also pretty strong pieces. Eller is so close to breaking out in a big way for us (just needs to work on finishing and face-offs).

That's certainly not nothing. It'd be nice to have more elite forwards, but we'd need a GM willing to pull the trigger on a big deal.

Not sure what planet you are on but Boston last year won with Thomas, everybody else was supporting cast. He was their best player by a mile and a half. Nobody builds around a stay at home d-man.
