Rookie of the Year

Who will win rookie of the year in the AHL this upcomming year. I am biased and feel Zach Parise has as good a shot as anyone. There should be a wide range of names comming up here.

I dont think Fleury would be considered a rookie. I could be wrong. Vanek has as good a shot as anyone.

Koivu won't win it, he doesn't have the support like the other teams. Simple as that.

Now HARDING might simply because he's going to get shelled...

It'll be Vanek vs. Suter vs. Parise, I think Suter will probably win.

I think it will come down between Parise and Vanek actually...

With Parise getting recoginition on work ethic and points and Vanek getting recoginition on goals/points.

Dan Blackburn if he comes back healthy. Did you see the AHL MVP last year? Labarbera? He numbers were amazing and hes not even that good. The teams great coaching on defense does it all. And with an even better defense this season those numbers should be matched.

I'd say Pock but since the Wolfpack arent 'great' upfront he wont be able to rack up that many points.

Parise has outscored Vanek at every level...

I'm saying Suter for rookie. He's a true gem.

Please, not with that again.

Vanek has more goal scoring ability than Parise in his left nut.

Vanek is twice as strong as Parise, he wont have to adjust nearly as much.

2002-2003: Parise scores 1 less point in 6 fewer games than Vanek.
2003-2004: Parise scores 5 more points in 1 fewer game than Vanek

Theres a reason Vanek was drafted 12 spots ahead of Parise, and I dont think it was because of his defensive abilities.

The reason? Bad judgement. Parise has out performed Vanek, pure and simple.

he'd still be eligible for the calder trophy in the nhl. why wouldn't he be considered a rookie in the ahl?

Bad judgement = 12 spots? I dont think so. Vanek has more scoring ability without question. Stats dont mean everything.

Ultimately it will be determined on the ice. I like both, had hoped Buffalo could've found a way to land Parise too, but as it is, I'm glad Vanek has the potential he has. If Parise works out, great for the Devils. But honestly, I'm more interested in how Vanek works out for Buffalo.

No.

It's pretty simple. If we're going by stats, Vanek is a better goal scorer, Parise is a better playmaker.

Isn't Zakarhov with the team too? I like both of them, but Shkotov tends to get himself in trouble with his mouth. I look forward to seeing both of them though. This should be a great year for the AHL.

MA Fleury seems like a good bet, but will he be the starter in Wilkes-Barre? Hard to say.

Is Ovechkin playing in the AHL this year? I have no idea either way to be honest.

Zach Parise is another sterling choice.

Vanek maybe too, but I'd say there are better choices.

How about Mikko Koivu? Is he playing in the AHL next year? If so, he's my pick. Mature physically & mentally, and really did well in the Finnish league last year. He's a little older than most of these guys, so he's got that going for him.

does Curtis Glencross apply?
He did have limited experience last year (7 games and playoffs) but had a strong playoff (7 points in 9 games) and a dominating performance at the rookie tournament (6 goals and 8 points in 4 games).
