Indeed. His shot is very reminiscent of Rafalski's.

You can't say that he is an everyday NHLer at this point, or if he ever will be, but he does possess a decent skill set. It would be nice to see him get a nice 25 or so game stretch to see what he can really do. He seems to have improved his defensive play which was pretty spotty at the start of last season from what i can rememeber.

While I completely loathe the gimmick, I think the way of tiebreaking with it is ********.

Having non-SO wins as a primary tiebreaker only makes me further convinced that the TV networks imposed on the league a faster resolution to games than continuous OT, because you're not going to create something and then penalise teams who excel at it.

That said, it should still be a tiebreaker because it's a gimmick after all, but come on. A team has more merit in going 16-13-1 with 7 SO wins than it has going 13-10-7 with one.

Order of tiebreak should be

1) games played
2) wins
3) non-SO wins
4) head-to-head
5) goal difference

either way, most people would consider us a one line team right now too. whether it's true or not, we're in no position to bash the panthers of all teams.

Kovalchuk's making better choices.

"Two dmen standing me up: get puck deep or hold up and pass"

vs

"X # of players in front of me? skate at them"

Moved into 8th place with the win. 6th to 12th is a 5 point difference.

That's a game where you don't really care if Kovy doesn't score because it was such a great overall effort on his part. Could of had at least 4 points tonight. Should have had 3 on the missed Sykora tip.

He had a very good game. I liked his play offensively, which is something I don't say often about Sal. Definitely a well earned assist for him tonight.

Parise, Kovalchuk leading the team.
I loved seeing them stick up for each other, and throwing their weight around. The Elias line was doing that pretty well too, especially Zubrus, who went at Weaver after he dropped Sykora with a big hit. This team is really starting to play for each other, and that can only be a good thing.

Honestly, you could make an argument for him being the best defenseman on the team right now. Volchenkov is the only real competition.

I would disagree with them but I also don't think bashing other teams is necessary; just win, baby.

Good overall game, a lot of back and forth play and physicality

We pretty much handed them both goals

Fayne has been extremely solid, while the rest of our defence is in varying states of chaos. Greene and Volch are injured, Larsson and Urbom are hitting rookie troubles, Salvador and Tallinder are wildly inconsistent, Foster just got here, and Tao has some deficiencies too. Fayne is the constant, the touchstone, the steady presence. I'm really glad we have him.

At least we get three days off in the middle of a winning streak.

I hate long layoffs after a loss.

He's been our best defenseman this season. Not been perfect, and that isn't the expectation, but he's developing really well and I believe he will continue to get better as he plays more.

We all know our powerplay is a disaster. It counteracts the penalty kill.

I love physical Kovy, he can really nail guys when he wants too. I wish he would do that more often. He doesn't need to go ape **** like Ovechkin and hurt yourself but it's awesome to see him take the body occasionally.

I really think he's more effective when he does it.

Yeah he is great at that. If he is struggling to get to the red line he shoots on net. Most of our Dmen just ice it.

I love the way Kovy has played lately. I think that injury really affected him as he looked slow to move. Now he is much more urgent with the puck and showing what he can do. Having a line that is producing makes it easier for him too as he doesn't feel he has to carry the offense on his back all game.
