I love how apparently we've "got one of the league’s weakest bottom-six forward groups"
isnt GST in our "bottom 6", that a pretty good 1/2 of a bottom 6

Exactly. If he's used in the right role as a 2nd or 3rd line defensive forward who can be a PK pest and chip in 10-20 goals for $1.5 million then fans will be happy with Mittens. If he ends up being counted on as a go-to scorer, then it might be rough.

a. A forward who can play the PK and hopefully help improve our 18th ranked PK.

b. A top 9 forward who can possibly score 12-15 goals, 30-45 points.

c. We needed a third line winger that didn't resemble Jaffray, McArdle, or any other AHL'er.

I don't really see how this doesn't resemble anything the Jets need.

That's exactly how I see it as well Romang67. I think The Stapler has done pretty well for us, but Jaffray / Stapler / Klingberg is not a quality NHL line.

If everyone is healthy, a Mittens / Burmi / Fehr line doesn't actually look to bad.

I think GST is great, but their positive contribution isn't enough to make up for the play of the Jaffray / Stapler / Kligberg line.

When you take the two lines together, it doesn't match up well against most of the league.

Honestly, I'd really like to see Burmi on one of the top two lines.

I think putting in a 3rd/4th line scenario is something that can hurt his future.

Congrats you guys got on SFYs not so popular list. Expect one of your players to be signed away by tampa in the future.

JK I dont really know if this guy is any good or not. Either way we will probably end up with Nail Yakupov now with this move so thanks guys.

when all healthy, that looks pretty good. Maybe move burmi/fehr up, wellwood down depending on play. Realistically its nothing that special, but enough to make the playoffs.

Decent top 6 with kane, but below average league wide (lacking in quality RW's). That bottom 6 as it is would be above average, with a good 3rd line capable of scoring, and a tough 4th line.

When healthy and all playing to potential, that defense could be top 5 just due to depth, enough to help pavelec out and make the playoffs for us. We are a similar team to nashville.

Well, apparently Chevy felt generous, cause he put a solid young defenseman in Kulda on waivers today... Please don't take him.

Not a smart move! And the Jets signing a Finn, how well did that work out for the Jets 1.0!

A much needed upgrade to the bottom 6.

Jaffray is not an NHLer, Klingberg and McArdle are not yet NHLers and as much as I love Stapleton, he's a borderline NHLer at best.

Miettinen's arrival and Antropov's return mean Jaffray and Klingberg are back to the icecaps. On days when Fehr can play, Stapleton will sit.

I really cannot argue with that. Jason Jaffray has been an everyday player here for well over a month.

However Miettinen is a really really meh piece. TBL overpaid, gave him an extra year and NMC clause to scare teams away from claiming him off waivers, but now we are stuck with all those restrictions. NMC for anybody outside of your top 2-3 players is a really really bad idea, IMO. So now we are stuck with a guy making 1.5 mil a season on our 4th line that just got released from his KHL team since he was not playing well....not sure I like this move.

I'm pro-Miettinen!

That third line has been made up of spare parts since the season started -- that's not really a sustainable situation. This opens up the potential for Noel to roll four solid lines, and we didn't have to give up anything to nab him.

That said, re-entry waivers seem like a very awkward thing.

EDIT: I only just now got the joke. Derp.

If we sent out an offer sheet ,I'd agree; Dick move.. This is a waiver pickup... not a big deal.

I think this is a great signing.. Another Vet who knows his role and will definitely contribute more than hurt the team.

I'm beginning to wonder if the Jet's bought damaged good in regards to Fehr, sounds like his injury is only going to allow him to play short stretches at a time followed by games off, not so sure they shouldn't have after someone else who could play regularly.

As for guys complaining about picking up Miettinen, he's better than anyone in St.Johns and better than 4-5 of the forwards we have here, he also brings veteran leadership to a pretty young team.

Looks like a really solid pick up. Good third liner:

Kane / Little / Wheeler

Ladd / Antro / Wellwood

Mitts / Burmi / Fehr (or Staples)

G / S / T

Wellwood & Burmi interchangeable, depending on match-ups and quality of play. Another nice piece that solidifies the hole in our 3rd line.

Some audio that pertains to the pick-up.

Coach Noel - Discusses availability of Miettinen. Talks about his skills, what he will bring to the mix. Burmistrov being day to day. Roster decisions. What he will do without 12 forwards. Possibility of bringing someone from St. John's. Wild hockey. What Ron Hainsey brings to the lineup. Parallels between Jets and Wild.

GM Kevin Cheveldayoff - Talks about the Jets picking up Antti Miettinen off waivers and placing Arturs Kulda on waivers.

Yeah, that's exactly what it came off as. Someone who has completely ignored the contributions of the GST line, and how pivotal they've been to the Jets recent success.
