Lightning are in need for a shake up as are the Oilers. Who knows, maybe Hemsky flourishes in Tampa with Stamkos and company.

All I know from watching Downie play, is he plays on the edge, crashes and bangs and sticks up for his team mate. He also had 22 goals one year. I'd take him in my top 6 any day of the week.

Downie or Malone, I'll take either.

If Brown is available i'd really hope the oilers were in on him. I wonder what it would take on top of Hemsky to land him? I thought Pajaarvi+Hemsky initially, but thats too much. Maybe Hemsky+2 2nd rounders that they could package in a deal for Parise?

I've seen a few kings say Brown hasn't been his old self, but with the Kings on a losing streak I doubt many of the players have been playing their usual inspired hockey. Guys like Kopitar, Doughty, Gagne ect have all been sub par but it doesn't make them bad players, it probably just means they need a shake up.

This has been the Oil this year. I think this team just needs a shakeup with getting a good 3-6 defenseman via trade.

Done. (I highly doubt Tampa would though)

I love how Downie plays. Crashes and bangs, wins puck battles in dirty areas (as he did for Stamkos and St. Louis), will probably end up being a 15-18 goal scorer.

He may not be the best two-way player, but I couldn't care less if he does everything else mentioned.

He also doesn't take anything and adds a fair bit of mean.

I'll be more creative,

Hemsky and Paajarvi

for

Downie and Malone.

Tampa cuts pay roll but also gets two very good hockey players.

Oilers add size and toughness. Win win for both teams.

I don't mind that deal, but honestly if we are moving two forwards we need to be getting some sort of upgrade on the backend.

I agree. Make that deal I proposed, then you have Omark and draft picks ect to get a #3-4 Dman.

Use Katz money on July 1st to land us a #1-2

Downie, Malone, Eager and Hordichuk would all play for the BOA's.

No more getting pushed around.

There potentially could be a crash and bang guy on each line....

Our focus should be building our defense. Even with everyone healthy Whitney, Peckham, Smid, Gilbert, Barker, Sutton and Potter is VERY WEAK.

Tweak the D this year. Its hard to make moves esspecially when top 4 defenseman are on everybody's list.

Barker and Sutton are UFA's.

I'd go into the off season pegging this as the Oilers D-core..

Whitney-???
Gilbert-Smid
???-???

This is where Tambo and Co. need to brain storm.

I don't know that Omark has that much value to get a top 3-4.

I agree for the most part, but if Whitney was playing 100% I think our d is a lot better then it has looked for most of this year.

Your 5-7 shouldn't be an issue. There are a lot of those guys available every year. I think the key is to get someone that is better than a #2 d-man, but not quite a #1. Another Whitney quality perhaps.

Edit: either that or we get someone that bumps Smid to the 3rd pairing given us a stronger 2nd pairing .

I'd attempt to sign

Wideman and or Suter and a Defense minded Tim Gleason.

I hate to see what Wideman gets. I remember wanting him when Boston had him and he was doing poorly. I said it was worth a chance to take a chance on him. Guess who's laughing now.

I'm still not so sure with that. Gilbert was great in the begining and now he's going back to his old ways slowly but surely, Potter might have had a fluke run, Peckham is still only 6-7 guy until he makes smarter choices, Sutton has made questionable plays and Barker was above average when healthy. That leaves us with two defenseman if Whitney was at 100%; Whits and Smid.

We need faster, bigger and smart D and we need to find a better goalie than Khabby or Dubes that can split games 50/50 next year so the younger guy is ready for a 50/60 game season next year.

IMO Omark does not have that much value--but some people here(who were also part of the Mact was to blame for the handling of Schremp) believe that he should be given primetime minutes at the nhl based upon how he performed elsewhere

I love the idea of Hemsky for Downie. Adding Paajarvi and Malone would also be great.

Love the first deal, but I still want to take a gamble on keeping Paajarvi

I'd be all over Hemsky for Downie. Love the way Downie plays.

Not really. No really need for another goalie at the moment. Plus I don't think Dallas lets him go for cheap.

What is the trade freeze around the holidays? Is it league imposed or do different teams treat it differently?

If you're asking when, there's always a list of important dates at: http://tsn.ca/nhl/
