So the conclusion is: Moscow have 5 Teams

Isn´t a little to much for the KHL to have many teams from on city?

It's 3. I don't think it's up to you to make any conclusions about it.

You said, that Vityaz and Atlant are really really close to Moscow.
So for me it sounds, that Vityaz and Atlant are districts of Moscow.

For starters, Vityaz and Atlant are nothing close to districts of Moscow, it's just team names. Second, they are based 65 km apart so they are not that close one to the other, are they?

Essentially Moscow itself has 3 hockey teams with Spartak soon to be gone so it's really not too much for a city with population close to 20 millions.

No I didn't. But surely, you know better, being from Dortmund and all...

By Russians standards 300 km is very close as well. So what now?

Three from the actual city of Moscow, two from the surrounding Moscow Oblast.

It's up to anybody to interpret that whichever way they want.
For comparative purposes, the hockey hotbed of the world, the province of Ontario, which produces the highest proportion of hockey players than anywhere in the world has only 2 NHL teams.
The world's economic capital and mega-city has 2(Rangers and Islanders)...

How likely would it be for Spartak to play in the Legends arena of they get "relegated due to financial problems" to the VHL?

Maybe there's a bigger chance that it just becomes Russia's home arena!

Since CSKA still plays in the 50 year-old 5.6k arena they are far more likely candidate.

VHL team based in Moscow playing in 12k arena would be the worst joke I had ever heard.

Yeah, that's what I thought!

Since CSKA is planning to build their own arena, I didn't think about they moving into into Legends Arena. Perhaps they move into it temporarily until their own arena is built, or perhaps they just use it and cancel their own plans!

Or Spartak Moscow will be financial safed by someone and CSKA will continue his own plan

Islanders come from Nassau, so its not a part of New york city. But the urban area got at least 3 teams (Rangers, Islanders and Devils). Im not sure if Buffalo is a part of the same urban area???

Spartak, CSKA and Dynamo are all important in russian sport. It would be bad for russian hockey if one of those teams drop out of the KHL.

There's no good reason for that to happen.

Spartak feels like more of a football team, but I might be wrong? I think it's enough having CSKA and Dynamo from Moscow. Spartak should join VHL in my opinion!

Why? VHL is russian developing league, the place for russian clubs. VHL needs more traditional russian clubs, so why not Spartak? KHL is for wealthy euro/russian clubs. Why to destroy domestic league?? KHL is here to promote hockey not to destroy domestic league, in this case VHL.

Try to listen to Shalaev, he has said many times that weak/poor clubs will leave KHL and will be replaced by wealthier clubs. If Spartak wants to stay in KHL, the club needs new wealthy owner.. which wont happen, it is sure now.

Aren't Islanders moving to Brooklyn?

Buffalo is not even close to NYC. They rather share an urban area with Toronto, Ontario.

But is Spartak a weak Club? What if Spartak and CSKA share legends arena? The big moscow Clubs got alot of potensial, but they need better arenas. So i would be patient With Spartak.

I believe that the KHL as a League will never be able to Challenge the NHL, but some russian Clubs will be as strong as any NHL Club. Those Clubs are SKA, CSKA, Dynamo and maybe Spartak. Big cities = lots of Money and supporters. So Spartak should stay in the KHL.

Sorry about my ignorance on Russian hockey, but do Torpedo and Lokomotiv (both Moscow) not have a hockey team? I remember they had decent football teams, so I guess they might have a hockey one.

They don't have any hockey teams, no. At least not in the higher divisions

Football and hockey clubs of Moscow are separate organizations nowdays. Except for Dynamos, they were merged by their new owners.

But anyway, there used to be Lokomotiv Moscow in hockey, they even finished 3rd in the championship once. It was disbanded back in the early 80s. And no, no Tropedo Moscow, during the Soviet times their main hockey team was in Gorky.
