According to Shalaev KHL will tighten requirements for arenas in the near future, and significantly. Some teams will have to search for new rinks or they'll be excluded. Spartak and Barys for example.
I approve of this, the barys arena is just god awful.

Vorky, no matter how you look at it, they're adding a couple hundred seats. VIPs or not.

ok, I just say it wont be 7500 or so. I talked to PR manager of Donbass, so I know details. Btw, new arena will be for 18 000 -21 000 seats, it is not decided yet. It is sure, arena wont have at least 18 000 seats

Sputnik Nizhny Tagil is also refurbishing their arena.

And don't quote me on this one, but there are rumours that DR bought Arena Riga for 40 million dollars. Have no idea how legit this one is.

We had no such previous facility unless you mean old Sporta Pils (Sports Palace) which was built when hippies were cool and could accomodate ~4500 people?
It's a parking lot nowadays or something like that.
Soviet buildings don't age well, as you probably know.

True but we aren't trying to compete with the NHL I just find a bit strange that there are stadiums that only hold around 5000 people or even less in the case of Vityaz

Yeah now, but I'm a bit surprised it took this long
Hopefully I'll get to go to one of SKA's games in 2013

yeah but it is not so easy to build new arena, plus some khl arenas were built after 2000, so dont expect building new one soon.

I think 20 000 is too much for any team... Russia is nowadays soccer country so there isn't enough hockey people for 20k arena.

Article about new arena for 15000 seats in Nizhniy Novgorod. It will be located in center of the city in ex industrial zone. Project should be ready soon, right now they're cleaning the site and working on communications etc.
