YOU are the GM: You get THREE trades to WIN the Cup
Title says it:
You are the Sabre's GM (and have plenty of autonomy from the owner). You have THREE trades of ANY player at ANY position, irrespective to salary. Some believe that when healthy, this team is a contender, so a few mega-trades should put them over the top.
1. Get rid of Ken Sawyer, his advice is counter productive towards winning a Cup. His dumb contract advice is screwing up the Sabres just like he screwed up the Penguins coming out of bankruptcy. Adding Leino to a Charmin soft core? Insanity. Are they trying to NOT win the Cup? Are they just looking at stats? Sawyer sucks at advice.
2. Trade Leino and Boyes for Malone and a 2nd rounder.
3. Trade Armia, Ennis, Gragnani, and Pomminville for Eric Staal and Bryan Allen.
As an outsider, just my $0.02. This would be much more fun, if there was a simulator of some sort, that not only accepted/rejected trades, but also simulated games.
I'm not trading Kassian. I'm not trading Myers, only trading Armia in a big scoring PF deal. Everything else is available. 1. Boyes (4.0) for Nielsen (0.55). = - 3.45
2. Roy (4.0), Stafford (4.0), Gragnani (0.550), Pysyk, 1st for Staal (8.25), Ruutu (3.8) = +3,5
3. Leopold (3.0), Kaleta (0.858) for Polak (2.75) = -1.108m
As an outsider, just my $0.02. This would be much more fun, if there was a simulator of some sort, that not only accepted/rejected trades, but also simulated games.
Ooo Fantasy Land, ok I'll play and I'll do it in two (all moves done in the offseason):
Stafford, Roy and our 1st for Bobby Ryan and Ana 1st. (Draft Grigorenko)
Ennis and MAG/pick (CGY's 2nd) for Ryane Clowe

(these totals are compiled without the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $66,191,190; BONUSES: $272,500
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): -$1,891,190
I assumed Gaustad's and Kaleta's cap hit for next year and that Grigorenko was drafted 2nd overall (If he get drafted anywhere from 4-6 his cap hit could be around 1.5-2 mil). Also I assumed the cap would go up by about 2 mil as well.
I guess if I can still make a 3rd trade, just deal Boyes at the deadline for a pick. Or if the NYI really would do something like Leino for Nielsen, I probably would and it would save us a ton of cap room.
Not meaning to flame, but you don't have Roy in your lineup and you traded Sekera away but still have him in the lineup.
Yea, sorry about that. I'm at work and rather busy so doing it off the cuff so to speak, thanks for pointing it out though. I put Sekera and meant Leopold and I moved Hecht over to wing and put Roy centering. Gerbe is our 13th forward.
I don't know, but yes, I would love to see Danny back in Buffalo. He and Leino did very well together in Philly.
Been thinking about this too. They obviously won't trade him during the season, but with Giroux, Schenn and Couturier at center he certainly seems like he'd be available for the right package.
I don't really have any trade proposals, all I know is that if either Zach Parise or Ryan Suter make it to free agency this offseason, I hope Pegula throws every penny he's got at either one.
Salaries are nearly a wash, but we save a little bit of cap space all together
You have an elite top line, a very good two-way line, a solid secondary scoring line, and a fantastic energy line. You also have a much more physical group of forwards and defenseman from top to bottom. I think this team could seriously contend for a Cup

Why nobody has proposed a trade for a franchise defenseman is beyond me. Do you guys watch our defense? I like Bobby Ryan, but more wingers? Really? At least do fantasyland right. Tyler Myers may end up a franchise defenseman, but he doesn't have the consistency to be considered as such yet. Regehr is pretty good, but the bloom is coming off that rose for me (I hated the way he played that first goal last night), and he isn't getting any younger.
Trade 1
Tyler Ennis ($875k) + Brad Boyes (4.0)* + Mike Weber ($925k) + Mark Pysyk + 2012 1st
for
Shea Weber (7.5)
*Boyes included for salary reasons this year
TRADE 2
2012 BUF 2nd
for
Frans Nielsen ($525k)
TRADE 3
Drew Stafford (4.0) + Paul Gaustad (2.3) + Jordan Leopold (3.0)
for
Travis Zajac (3.887) + Henrik Tallinder (3.375)
Total In = 14.287
Total Out = 14.800
Vanek-Adam-Pominville
Leino-Roy-Kassian
Hecht-Zajac-Gerbe
McCormick-Nielsen-Kaleta
x Ellis
Weber-Ehrhoff
Tallinder-Myers
Regehr-Sekera
x Gragnani/McNabb/Finley/Brennan/Schiestel
Miller
Enroth
Zajac and Nielsen do all the heavy lifting defensively. Roy and Adam are cast in offensive roles. And that top-6 defense corps is sick.

Reason: Put Hecht into the lineup
I think we can grow into cup contenders. Ennis-Adam-Kassian would be a great second line in 2-3 years. It offers a great blend of size, speed, and skill. Fans just have to be patient with them - especially Ennis.
Aquire more grit in our bottom lines, and trade for a true #1 center with size to play between Vanek/Pomminville.
This leaves us with Roy, Stafford, and futures to aquire a top center.

so awesome...
I think you probably have to add some sweeteners too the Zajac/Tallinder deal (high pick/prospects)
I dont think there is any way Nashville trades Weber. He's still restricted at the end of the year.
