I don't know about others but I haven't felt the same way about watching the WJC since the WJ in Ottawa with Coho, Eberle, Tavares, Subban...etc. I just haven't had the same passion for the tourny as I've had in past years.... maybe it was just because of certain players on recent teams (ex: Hall) Hopefully Brendan Gallagher can change that though! I'm looking forward to watching him & hopefully he can help bring the Gold back for Canada.

Quinton Howden (the draft choice picked by the Panthers in the Ballard deal) is exhibiting concussion like symptoms from a heavy hit in a scrimmage game the other night and is day to day.

Quinton Howden is being treated for concussion-like symptoms, TSN's Farhan Lalji has confirmed.

The Team Canada forward was hit hard into the boards by Brett Connolly during Monday night's intra-squad game at the national junior team selection camp.

Head coach Don Hay refused to go into detail regarding Howden's injury Tuesday morning, only saying it was an upper-body problem and that the Florida Panthers prospect was feeling "a lot better."

Howden, listed as day-to-day, will not play Tuesday night when the junior team hopefuls face a group of Canadian Interuniversity Sport all-stars.

Do the Canucks have any prospects in the tourney aside from Nicklas Jensen?

Brendan is going to be fun to watch. The kid wears his heart on his sleeve, can't wait to see how he battles when he has the Maple Leaf on the front of his jersey.

does anyone have a rundown of Canucks prospects that'll be participating?

I know Jensen's a lock for Denmark... anyone else?

I'm fairly exited to have a Danish team participate for the first time, though they don't really have much chance of staying up. But will be nice to see if Jensen is able to put the team on his back and still produced despite probably being covered extensively when on the ice.

And please Canada, please, don't beat Denmark too badly, let's just say you 6 or 7 goals, not more than that.

Thinking about which Canucks' prospects would be eligible...

Nicklas Jensen (Denmark)
Ludwig Blomstrand (Sweden)
Pathrik Westerholm (Sweden)
Joseph Labate (USA)
Frank Corrado (Canada)
Sawyer Hannay (Canada)
David Honzik (Czech)
Jonathan Iilahti (Finland)

I think that's it --- any chance for Iilahti or Honzik?

Jonathan Iilahti is one of the 4 goalies on the Finnish roster. I asked on the Team Finland thread about where Iilahti stands in terms of the starting/backup role for Team Finland and one guy said he'll likely just be a depth goalie so we probably won't see him in action unless their other goalies stink it up.

Honzik didn't even make the team for the Czechs, nevermind the starting roster. Kind of a disappointing tournament this year for Canucks fans as Jensen is the only guy we'll get a look at and he doesn't play on one of the world's premier teams (Canada, USA, Russia, Sweden etc.) so we probably won't see much of him.

Apparently he was one of the final cuts for Team Finland. Too bad although it's not likely he would have seen much time as the third goaltender anyways.

No chance at all for Blomstrand/Westerholm on Sweden?

I know the World Jrs are just one tournament, but it sucks that the Canucks have been poorly represented with just a couple players going for seemingly forever.

I hope LaBate earns a spot for USA next season as a 19 year old. Not much chance for him this year with the depth of American forwards.

Got tickets to see UAlberta Bears vs Denmark tonight. Hopefully Jensen plays tonight, the game summary from last night said he left with a sore groin.

Jensen left as a precautionary measure last night, as far as I know it was nothing serious, but no need to risk anything in a training match. Hopefully he should be good to go tonight.

Jaden Schwartz (Wilcox, Sask./Colorado College, WCHA) has been named captain of Canada’s National Junior Team at the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Four players were also named as alternate captains by Hay, and will rotate from game to game at the WJC:
Brett Connolly (Prince George, B.C./Tampa Bay, NHL), Brandon Gormley (Murray River, P.E.I./Moncton, QMJHL), Quinton Howden (Oak Bank, Man./ Moose Jaw, WHL) and Devante Smith-Pelly (Scarborough, Ont./Anaheim, NHL).

Here's how deep we are at forward this year: Brett Bulmer, who had 3 points in 9 games for the Wild at the start of the year, was nearly kept up after that, has had 27 points in 18 games since going back to the WHL, and apparently looked good in the junior camp...was one of the cuts. You know we've got some scoring when the coaches can let a guy like that go.
