Stafford, Roy, Ennis on notice

Quote:
The reality Tuesday night was Drew Stafford's blown coverage, more than anything else, contributed to the Sabres suffering another loss at home. He was responsible for defenseman Jared Cowen and instead allowed him to roam freely for the winner in the Senators' 3-2 overtime victory in First Niagara Center.

"Staff was supposed to stay with his guy," Ruff said. "He was with him at the top of the circle and just let him go. There was nothing else to that play."

Really, what else could he say?
Quote:
"It's time for Ennis, Stafford, Roy to make a difference inside of games," Ruff said. "I can't stand here and tell you they did a great job because they had the chances. Great chances are only good when they end up in the back of the net."

Roy and Stafford, both of whom were on the ice for the deciding goal Tuesday, have been dreadful for most of the season. Ennis was sidelined with a high-ankle sprain, but he was virtually absent when healthy. The gory details: Roy has one goal in his past 13 games, Stafford one in 17 and Ennis two all season, including one against Ottawa.

Ever since he's come back from injury, I've liked the way Ennis has played for the most part.

It's his linemates that need to pull their heads out of their *****.

Not surprising on Stafford and Roy, but Ennis really only had that bad stretch to start the season before he was injured. Since returning I've liked what he has shown on the ice.

Roy and Stafford are really an issue. They make up 2/3rd's of the second line and rarely finish off their chances this season. I am very surprised by their lack of compete considering they have shown they can produce, but not surprised they are being put on double secret probation.

Hamilton made two telling points - one in the PC interview where he asked Ruff why Stafford let go of his player in a basic 1-on-1 coverage, noting he's not a rookie, and Ruff agreed; and the other in his post-game wrap on WGR, when he noted that Stafford is wearing a letter this season, which should be a sign of greater leadership and responsibility - yet he's falling back into the same complacency and lack of focus that plagued him in past years.

I think Ennis has played ok since he's returned. Stafford and Roy on the other hand has been sucking all season. I just don't get it why Roy gets so much ice time.

Ruff once said that Vanek will get elite ice time when he gives us elite play. What about Roy then? Roy has never been elite but just gets the ice time.

That said I wanna see more ice time for Kassian and less of Stafford on the ice.

Roy is my enigma. I totally understand that he is disappointing thus far this season, but I also know I can count on him to show up in big games most of the time. I wish he would regain some of his chippy-ness from the early post-lockout years, but I don't count against him. Ennis also gets some leniency from me. He's one of those rare players who is so much more exciting to watch in person than tv. He makes an impact on the ice, he just needs to control it and use it to a more effective purpose. He's only 22 so I'm not too worried.

Stafford on the other hand, you can trade that guy.

Ennis looked fine against Ottawa, but good on Ruff for the callouts. Public challenge seems like the logical next maneuver - at this point, try anything, right?

Stafford blows, trade him. 1 goal in 17 games is just atrocious, he got his paycheck, now he's back to coasting for the next 4 years.

Stafford's a concern.

It's looking more and more like his last season was an aberration rather than a break through.

The reality for the Sabres is that they have only 3 veteran forwards that have played at or above expectations all season. Vanek and Pomminville. Everybody else is either a rookie, injured, or hasn't played very well for most of the games they have played. Are they on strike because Leino makes more than all of them?

It shouldn't be about who you threaten to trade, it's about who are you going to find to bring better support for those 2 veteran leaders and a handful of inspiring rookies?

Earth to mars. The billion dollar wall-e has landed.

moral victory for lindy ruff. over the past 3 games the sabres have gotten points. Ennis looked fantastic. stafford missed a point blank opertunity to start the game. mcnabb and weber held their own. and kassian managed to beat two of ottawa's best players to the net (fact check it)

I've liked Roy and Ennis since the Florida game. I have not liked Stafford. Hopefully this makes Tyler and Derek bear down more on their scoring chances. Their line is creating more than any other line but it doesn't mean much if they're only cashing one every other game.

What would you guys give us for Dustin Brown? And we don't want any of your defenders- we actually have a few to spare if you want in Martinez, Drewiske or Hickey.

The only thing we have to offer is wingers if you don't want defenders.
