Pysyk makes the Canadian WJC squad

Canada's carrying 7 defensemen; I think Pysyk will likely be the spare D-man for the Canadians.

Congrats to Mark for making the squad!

Here's the full roster...

Agreed. Mark's one of only 5 WHLers to make the squad. 8 from the OHL made the team...half from one team(Niagara), so that also makes me happy(an IceDogs honk, am I... ) .

I expect he'll be in the regular rotation and Harrington gets the #7.

We also have Armia for Finland. Other than these two, do we have any prospects in the tournament?

Good for Mark. Well done!

(*Secretly hoping Etem scores a goal for USA while Pysyk is on the ice so that Jame's head explodes*)

How is Pysyk only expected to be the spare dman? Our 1st rounder...as a spare dman for a Junior squad? Yikes..

Labeling him a spare shows that you know nothing about the other defensemen on the team, which is completely expected.

Actually Bob McKenzie had him as a top pair defenseman and a lock to make the team a week ago. It isnt a junior squad genius it's the world juniors, where the best players in all of Canada combine to make one team. Nugent-Hopkins got cut from the team last year...YIKES huh?

Also I thought I read yesterday that team was just trimmed down to 35 and the final roster isnt set yet? Either way like I said in the above post Bob McKenzine said he's a lock to make the team

EDIT: sorry I just went to TSN, it is set. JGL got sent home yesterday

First, I'm not super-privy to the ins and outs of the whole thing-this was just a guess on my part and my part alone. And second, I know Dougie Hamilton is also on the team and has quite a bit of offensive skill(he's more of a two-way player than an offensive D; fact is, Dougie STILL racks up points). IMO, they're not expecting Pysyk to carry the D scoring load for Canada.

(Add on: TSN's Ray Ferraro noted that Nathan Beaulieu is expected to provide most of the scoring push from the blueline. So Hamilton might be asked to work more on the D side. Same with Pysyk.)

Hamilton and Beaulieu are IMO hands down the two best offensive d-men on that team. Gormley & Murray being a distant #3/4 in the offensive department with Pysyk maybe the 5th best offensive player in that group. Pysyk isn't and hasn't been expected to be an offensive weapon of any kind. Him playing on their shutdown pairing is far more likely. If I had to guess I'd say that either Harrington, Beaulieu or Oleksiak will be their #7 d-man.

JGL looked pretty good in Red/White from what I saw. Encouraging even though he was passed over.

Pysyk made this team because of his defensive skills not because of what he can do offensively. Those skills are just a bonus to his mistake free d-game.

Admittedly, I didn't like the Pysyk pick when we took him. Just seemed like too much of the same. However, with his development, he's grown on me. Glad to hear that he's rounded out his game and getting a shot at the WJCs. Sounds like he's going to be a solid, unspectacular player for a long time. We need more players that play the simple game.

4th year in a row that one of our prospects has made the Canadian Junior squad.
(Myers/Ennis, Adam, Kassian/Foligno, Pysyk). Congrats, Mark.

This year's tourney should be another good one (even though last year's was super special b/c of it's location).
