Yurgh. At least he's a forward, but damn. Didn't really like anything I saw from him during the pre-season, and for an AHL All Star, he hasn't really set anything on fire for Chicago this year.

Mancari is terrible. Plays like a Top 6 player, but doesn't have the NHL skill for it. Doesn't use his size. Basically a huge teddy bear.

Would have rather called up Schroeder.

Haha, desperate times eh?

Maybe this call-up will inspire Mancari, he's had 'some' NHL success with the Sabres, and this could be viewed as close to his last shot at the big leagues. Dude's a -8 despite being the Wolves best goal scorer though, so give him soft match-ups.

This absolutely makes you realize how bad our forward prospect depth is, especially anywhere near NHL-ready types.

Mancari in my mind is one of those bubble players.... almost too good to play in the AHL but not good enough for an NHL roster spot. The Sabres gave him plenty of time to grow into an NHL player but he never made that leap forward.

Thank God. Mancari should sit as the extra forward.

He can't be worse than Alberts on the wing.

No, he will probably go back down. "Emergency" callups don't last long.

He would HAVE to be sent down. Emergencies require that you can't ice 12 forwards, 6 d or two tendies. If Ebbett could go, then Mancari would be returned to the AHL.

I'm trying to figure out what the Canucks are doing here. I think they are circumventing waiver eligibility. I'm pretty sure emergency callups count towards the cap so it's not like they are saving cap dollars.

I agree with this, I'd love to see the Jordan called up!

Damnit we need more Americans!

I think this really highlights how difficult it is to build up _good_ depth. Last year, MG had to deal a couple of 3rd rndrs for Lapierre and Higgins. Each player was struggling on his former team. Here, they are integral pieces. MG then signs a few 4th line options in the offseason and none have panned out.

It just really is hard to build quality depth. Look at Detroit: They pick up Cleary, Eaves, and Miller off waivers. They rejuvenate Bertuzzi. Also, they astutely sign Ian White, an SJ cast-off, in FA. All of it was done to build the depth they have now.

Guys like Letestu and O'Reilly were traded for 4th rndrs. etc. etc..

Very difficult for GMs to build a quality roster.

But we're talking 16 or 17 deep in the forward ranks. For a guy that far down the depth chart Mancari isn't that bad at all. I saw more out of Mancari offensively in 1 live pre-season game than I've seen out of Oreskovich in 40 odd games. He has issues with turnovers, doesn't skate very well and won't provide toughness but he's still fine on the 4th line wing playing 7-8 minutes a night. He's a legitimate threat offensively - something few depth callups can claim.

Eh - despite the disaster that is our bottom 6 - our top 6 isn't atrocious. Certainly don't peg Schroeder as much of a bottom 6 player (although when we're playing #6 D-men on the 4th line...)

Mancari is not an NHL player - can even seem slow at the Ahl level, makes some face palm defensive plays, troubles with coverage and is rarely hustling back to thwart a chance against. He gets by, certainly not by his skating, but by his reach and stick play. offensively, he lives and dies by his shot.

As someone said, a big teddy bear is what I would describe his physical play as. Softer than anyone in our lineup. Not suited for 4th line duties. I am afraid of him on the 3rd line.

Is it fair to see he's like lee goren version 2.0 good in the ahl but not good enough to be on the nhl roster on a regular basis

Like I get it, he doesn't want to be a gritty guy and use his body, fine. But then he better damn well put it away when he gets a chance, he had some looks tonight.

I actually really liked Ebbett from the beginning soo....

Mancari just doesn't translate to the NHL. Plays like he's a top 6 winger but doesn't have the finishing ability. Doesn't fit in the bottom 6 because he refuses to use his size. I don't need him to fight, but even Oreskovich lays the body and he's pretty docile.
