GAME ON TONIGHT (wed) vs the Portland Pirates (caps farm) Also I am pretty sure you can still send in questions to the Radio Ann. through email and he answers them on the radio! I think this is the addy he still uses ryan@wcap.net

Games @ 7 The site now has a icon to link up to the broadcast... lower left side Giordano will prob be in (1st game), as Rourke is suspended for 3 games by the AHL.

Lowell won tonight (wed 10/20) 5-3 vs the portland pirates
1st star I think was Kobasew
3rd star was Loyns

~Kobasews 1st was off his skate and in, 2nd was an open net. Chuck is also sporting one of the A's for the Monsters!!
~Loyns' was a beaut! camped right off to the side, it poped out to him and hit it home! He backed up into one of the Pirates and for some reason he took exception to it, and poped the guy in the head knockin his lid off... got a 2 min roughin for that!
~The Richmond fight was anything but a fight... it was a take down by the pirate, but good for Danny stickin up for himself!
~Giordano and Curry were BOTH in tonight... Rourke was scratched for the 1st game of his 3 game suspension. Lowell dressed 7 Dmen tonight

Box Score: (from ahl.com)

I am almost 100% positive that Brantt was signed by LOWELL, as he was a VERY late addition to the roster... C Mac is def a "flame prospect"

Yep I was right, here is the article link

AWAY GAME TONIGHT (fri) & Tomorrow (sat) *hopefully the time is moved up as the Soxs are on at night... I know some of the Monsters & most fans around here wanna see this series!!*

Listen here Both start at 7:05, its vs the Baby Bruins & the Pirates... The baby B's should be a good one as they were our home opener. Which ended in a shoot out, if you all recall. Should be a good fight or two in there this weekend! *Just pray its NOT Richmond again* lol Heres to keepin the Monsters in 1st place in the Atlantic division!!! *knocks on wood*

Have a good weekend all!

EDIT: game time for sat vs portland is now at 4:05 do to the Soxs game 1!

Have they figured out whats up with Commodore in regards to wether teh Flames have to claim him as one of there players or wether Lowell claims him as one of theres.

If I where the Carolina Hurricanes I would be pretty upset if Commodore wasn't claimed by the Flames as one of there players. Unless of course teh Hurricanes dont really have any defenseman to fill the spot anyhow.

Hopefully teh team has alot of success and so do our players.

Any updates on the goaltending situation? I heard Krahn got lit up the other day. Maybe he needs to spend a full year in the 'E' first?

I have NO CLUE why Brantt was listed on the flames page! A note on Brantt, he is just getting over a injury he got in our 1st game, pulled something in his rib cage. Hopeful hes ready to go for Fri. we are gonna need him!!!

Commy just hasnt had enough time to skate and get back into game shape, as I assume he didnt think he was playing, or something cuz of the potential lock out... who knows, but I'll tell ya this, he can NOT in any way slack off here, our coach will NOT put up with it. No matter who it is, he would bench a guy for not holding his own... and right now, commy's ok, cuz he steped in before coach wanted him to, do to the Evans injury!

Evans should be fine as soon as he gets the stitches out. I'd say this weekend or next he'll be ready. Went to the eye dr. just incase and they said everything was ok.

Loyns....... I really havent heard anything, I guess he suited up for pre game warm ups yesterday, but didnt play. To be honest I thought he was trying to do WAY to much to soon. I mean its been just over a month since his last surgery! I just pray for the best for him... hes a good player (1st line honors with Staal and Forbes so far this season) as well as person!

Krahner wasnt totally "lit up" he let in 5... I wasnt there to see, but I listened to the game the next day, and it was just a horrible game for SO MANY reasons. I mean having 3 of our players tossed in the 1st period didnt help us AT ALL. Krahn actually almost danced in a fight himself, but the refs stoped it from happening. (THANK GOD!!!.. I rather see Cam drop'em than Brent)

Overall we picked up 1 point this weekend... the 1st game, it was basically a blood bath, stop and go game... NOT lock monster hockey... 2nd game went ok till the 3rd and OT (they SHOULD have won this game) Short handed goal's in OT should NOT be happening! We are in 3rd in our division after this weekend, but soon to be 4th after hartford takes todays game!

Note about Kobasew: He does have the Captins honor on the road, and the Alter. at home. Hes playing VERY well! Just needed a lil time to spark it up! Him and Ziggy together (AWESOME)

Game one vs P Bruins 6-2
Krahn Loss 5 goals let in
Ryan Bayda (1g, 1a), Chuck Kobasew (1g,1a)
88 minutes in penalties, including 63 minutes in the first period

Game two vs Portland 3-2 OT
Ward 1st loss of the season
Kobasew and Staal with the goals

Kobasew's goal at 25 seconds into the game was a real shocker. Kinda took the wind out of the Pirates' sail, I think. Krahn had the benefit of a scrappy team, actually made his best save after a play was blown offside but the save was a beauty. He didn't seem to be tested much but maybe that was just because he was in good position every shot and didn't cough up any fat rebounds. He's going to have to take boxing lessons, though, so he can defend his mates against the other goalie -- either that, or learn to stay in the crease and not take the LTC penalty.

Gordie Howe would throw up if he knew what Kobasew and Rajamaki did was called a fight...they both should have gotten 5 minutes for delay of game.

Hottest goaltending in the AHL?

Wow. Ward gets in a fight last game; Krahn comes in, wins the game, and then
Ward starts the next game and gets the shutout?! Both goalies are now hot and the team is winning. Very tough division to make the playoffs in but they look great right now. Why are the Monsters not playing at least one game in Calgary??

I don't know for sure why they're not playing games in Calgary and Carolina. I can guess it has to do with money. Though they'd probably draw a whole lot better than their horrible average of 3,403 per game in Lowell , the cost of transplanting the game (airfare and hotel and expenses for two teams, which Lowell would have to pay) probably outmatches the increased revenue from ticket sales, and neither the Flames nor the 'Canes have much cash to share to offset the cost. Of course that's pure speculation of mine and the two teams might prove me wrong. Nice for you Cowtown fans if that happens!

OK, this isn't Lowell Lock Monsters, but it is AHL-related, and was worth starting an entirely new thread. On the 28th, tickets are in hand to see the Edmonton Roadrunners vs. the Rochester Americans at HSBC Arena in Buffalo. Plenty of former Flames or WHL prospects on the Edmonton roster.

Here are a few interesting players to watch:

Edmonton

C Raffi Torres - former high draft pick of the Islanders, adds some skill
C Jarrett Stoll - someone to compare Matt Lombardi with
D Rick Mrozik - former St. John Flame, probably will never reach NHL fulltime
D Rocky Thompson - former Flames farmhand wannabe toughguy
Jeff Woywitka - name was tossed around in the Iginla to Philly rumors - looks like a solid top 4 guy)
G Tyler Moss - former Flames goalie!
G Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers - gets fewer starts, but is considered one of the Oilers' prospects in net

Rochester

C Chris Taylor - younger brother of Tim Taylor
C Derek Roy - highly touted & one of the league's top scorers
LW Tomas Vanek - Sabres' top picks from the 2002 draft & has an NCAA championship under his belt)
D Jeff Jillson - former San Jose Shark - swapped in the Curtis Brown trade?
G Ryan Miller - was once considered the Sabres "goalie of the future"

If there's something anybody wants me to report on, just leave a message.

I went to the game last Sunday vs. the Falcons, and let me tell you, it wasn't pretty. I had great seats, right behind the Lock Monsters bench, and here is some of my impressions from the game:

Mike Commodore: Mike played the right side defence. He had some great on target shots from the point that caused the other team a great deal of difficulty to deal with. On the downside however, he was forced to chase the puck back behind his own net on a couple of occasions. In the third period, especially, it became quite evident what a terrible skater he is. He also did not have any one hit of great impact, and certainly not anything like the huge bonecrushers he's famous for in Calgary. Overall I would say he played an alright game, and in fairness, it should be noted that I took in the third game of three in a row - Friday, Saturday night and Sunday afternoon.

Lynn Loyns: Lynn was absolutely the biggest disappoinment of the game. I don't want to be too hard on him as he may have been carrying an injury for all I know. However, he honestly did not have even one memorable play - the only reason I know he was there was because I saw him on the bench. He played on the third line and obviously wasn't very impressive at all

Brent Krahn: He didn't play at all in the game, Cam Ward played all three periods, OT and the shootout but Krahn was presented the AHL player of the month honour before the game started. To his credit, he didn't grandstand and skated straight to the bench, leading me to believe the problems he has had with maturity and personality may finally be behind him. I personally had written him off as a bust early last season, but I guess the old addage is true - patience is a virtue when it comes to goaltending prospects, especially ones who have had injury problems, stunting their development. Hopefully Krahn will be a serviceable backup or more for Kiprusoff once Turek is gone.

Brennan Evans and Ritchie Regehr: both of these guys, sadly, looked like filler out there. I especially paid close attention to Regehr as we all know what a great player his brother turned out to be, but I didn't really see anything to suggest that he is anything more than a career AHLer. Hopefully I'm wrong, though we are quite stacked on defence as a club.

Chuck Kobasew: this guy is absolutely the real deal. I personally have had misgivings about him, though it is hard to fault him in his capacity last season as a fourth line checker. I've had misgivings about him on two issues: attitude and humility. I'm not sure what it is but he has previously come off to me like an arrogant, spoiled, and somewhat self involved player. Confidence in ones abilities are a necessary requirement if you want to make it with the big boys, and this guy really impressed me last Sunday. Coming off the third game in three days the rest of the team was understandably quite tired, but not Chuck. He did it all - great passing, quick shots, speedy recovery, and most notable of all, he has added a huge toughness element to his game. He was muscled off the puck by a huge defenceman in the third period, and responded by taking the guy into the boards with a nice, clean hit that had the fans cheering. He did score a bit of a garbage goal late in the third to send it to OT, where he was on the ice for almost the full five minutes. On an unrelated note, the OT period was great fun to watch - constant two on ones to both ends of the ice. Kobasew seems to have a bit of chemistry with Eric Staal, who looked like the lesser player in the game. The absolute highlight of the night, however, was on an insignifigant play about midway through the first. The puck was coming out from behind the net, and Kobasew raced forward to directly in the middle of the ice surface. The puck came quite fast behind him and with one move, he made me into a huge believer. He looked to his right and saw a teammate breaking with his marker about three feet behind him. Chuck took his stick and redirected/passed it to him through his legs to set up the breakaway. He then followed the play from behind and was unlucky not to score on the rebound. I really think the guy has a huge shot to make it as our second line right winger behind Iginla when hockey starts up again. His playmaking ability, which has never been showcased to me before, puts him, in my opinion, up there with Reinprecht in terms of sheer vision and ability to land a pass on a dime. I try not to get too high or low on any one prospect, but I was very very impressed with his game. One thing that you never really get to see when watching on TV is a guys play in the neutral zone, and Kobasew is as tenacious a defender in that area as any prospect I've seen play. I'm not a big fan of the whole hooking and tying up in the neutral zone, personally I think it ruins the game but Chuck was obviousy doing what he's been told to do, and he did it very well.

Nobody else really did anything worth commenting about, #26 for the Lock Monsters, St. Jaques had a great game but he's the Hurricanes property anyway.

Looking forward to 2005, there is great hope for us - we should have our own AHL affiliate up and running, and hopefully we will see our European prospects given a chance to sign, assuming of course we have an IIHF transfer agreement in place. In particular, I can't wait to see Ramholt play, I've never seen him myself but had a buddy in Cape Breton who was very impressed with is play last season - so much so, in fact, he declared that Ramholt would be an everyday top four NHL defenceman within three years.
