Our team is going to be cup contenders for the next decade with Bowman as GM and our scouting staff. I dont think we need any immediate changes. In 3-4 years our lineup should be like this:

Saad-Toews-Kane
Sharp-Pirri-Hossa
Morin-Bolland-Kruger
Smith-McNeill-Jayes
Beach

Keith-Seabs
Leddy-Olsen
Clendening-Johns

Crawford
Salak
But if we give up a few prospects for a better chance to win a cup this year, most here are all for it, as they should be.

You don't save a pitcher for a game tomorrow. It might rain tomorrow.

if we get a good deal, we can trade our prospects

we will have a vet or 2 more on the Roster, you think we won't trade a player in the next 3 years? no FA signings?

We don't even know what our PO Roster will be this year

I'm guessing that you forgot that the CBA is up after this year. We don't know what the cap will be next year and neither does Bowman. The players currently make 57% of hockey related revenue and everything I have read points to that percentage going down. The NFL and NBA are both 50/50 splits under their new CBA's and I would bet that the NHL will end up somewhere around that number. For instance if the cap for this year was based of a 50/50 split, instead of the current ratio of 57/43, the cap would be around 56.5 mil per team. That's 7.8 mil less. There are other things to consider, like the fact that the NHL just signed a new TV deal that goes into effect next year, but there is no guarantee that the cap will go up or even stay the same next year.

for this year, I gladly take Parise for a cup run. After that and we know the new SC Bowman can try to resign him - for example

He's not even making $1.2 mil. With our cap space, I'll take that contract any day.

$1.2 mil is a ton for him. His career high is 14 points and he's only played more than 70 games in a season once in his career. By comparison Stalberg and Mayers combined make about $1.2 mil.

You're reading the wrong stuff then. Nothing significant is going to change. The cap will certainly go up next year.

If you wanna be in denial that the owners aren't going to fight for money, that's cool and all. just don't be shocked when the cap comes down if it does.

If we could get a nice big, stay at home d-man who can contribute on the PK (see: Hal Gill) and a physical winger with some speed I'd be happy. I think this team is pretty set as is. If we could get Kulemin (although it will cost a ton), that would be perfect

Kulemin - Toews - Kane
Sharp - Kruger - Hossa
Stalberg - Bolland - Frolik
Bickell - Mayers - Brunette
Morin - Pirri - Carcillo - Scott

Keith - Seabrook
Hammer - Leddy
Montador - Gill
Lepisto - O' Donnell

That depth is unreal.

The players may have more come out of there paycheck in escrow due to cost control, but the cap almost certainly won't go down.

I will be shocked, because there's not a chance in hell that it happens.

Cap is not going down anytime soon

Infact there will be an infusion of 2M + per team added to cap next year because of TV deal kicking in

Wonder if Emelin could be available

Cunningworth has scratched him several times in favor of Chris Campoli

Emelin's D can be spotty at times when he goes for big hit but overall he is solid in his own end but the guy destroys people with his hits ,, Infact he loves to hit and plays with an edge

Is comparable IMO to a young Darius Kasparaitis

If he came here and slowly stopped playing physically we could see once and for all if it's the system.

Kasper isn't really a fair comparison for Emelin. He's closer to Denis Gauthier the way he runs around out there.

Another good thing about Emelin is he is only 25 so he could be a fixture in Hawks D for next several years with Olsen still a ? and who knows what plan will be for Hammer longterm

Meh thru years I have always seen more Kasp in his game especially in Russia because he can go over edge at times which Gauthier didn't do often

Emelin can play a bit dirty at times

Gauthier was a nutjob at the end of his career.

Look up his elbow on Gorges. Later that MONTH - after serving a 5 game suspension - he killed a Sharks player with a hit from behind.
