Hfstars pick up hockey

Im too lazy to go through the roll call thread and check for everyone that plays, so I figured I'd just start a thread for it.

Who all on here plays hockey (specifically in the metroplex)? Do you think we could get enough of us together to play some pick up on one of the slow days at one of the dpsc's?

I play, but I'm still in HS and in Houston. Never played anything other than in-house, but I can keep my own with some A travel kids on my high school team. Probably couldn't make an A team, but still.

Actually playing with one of the best amateur (I guess?) players in the state right now.

I used to play pick up street hockey all of the time but my conditioning is nothing short of **** at the moment. But this would be a good excuse to stop smoking and to get back in to shape.

i'm down. more experience with roller, but i've got my ice gear with me. joined in on an instructional league practice the other night... first time in a long time back on ice. it'd be good to get back on the ice some more.

I play here in the Metroplex. They have Thurdsay pickup at the Stonebriar mall in Frisco for $10. I live in Flower Mound BTW.

Ah I'm afraid I'm going to be in the minority that doesn't live in the Dallas side of the metroplex. Euless is my closest rink

I know Farmers Branch has pickup and im not sure about Grapevine. I would be up for either place. The Euless rink for me is a drive.

I would like to play. I live in Fairfield, south of Dallas on I-45. It would depend on when the games was as to if I could make it. I am off several days over the next couple of weeks. I play in a novice league in College Station.

I don't play but I want to... I can skate alright, need to work on stopping, but otherwise I do alright. Need to buy gear though, wouldn't be able to do that until the 1st.

Where all does your team play? The only rink I know of anywhere near there is the CS one. Is that it, or do you guys go up to Dallas too?

Aww man Im so jealous of you guys. I wish I had some friends who were Stars fans to hang out with and play hockey with. All my friends are either Leafs or Canucks fans.

You could always just murder all of your friends.

Seriously though, who would miss a Leafs fan? It would be on page 15 of the newspaper with a headline with no article that reads "Random Leafs fan found bludgeoned to death in back alley" and every one would just get on with their lives because it's not like there's any shortage of Leafs fans.

See, Modo's got it figured out, because he's the only Stars fan in Toronto. If he's bludgeoned to death in a back alley, that's it, no more Stars fans in Toronto. They'll be left to mourn the extinction of a species.

Back on topic, sort of, pick up hockey would be super duper if I didn't live in the hockey expletive of the world.

Do you play, though? What rink do you usually go to?

I played for my high school team in Katy but I haven't played since (~5 years ago). Before that I learned to skate at Memorial City.

Oh really? Which high school? And through the ISHL?

Yea, I used to play through MC, but they've pretty much shut down hockey for good there. They make too much money through free skates. I didn't know this or expect it, but out of the the ISUSA rinks in the country, the MC one makes the most money by far compared to their others.

Taylor HS, it wasn't part of the ISHL. Still isn't I guess. We practiced at the rink in Sugar Land. Hockey at MC has been going downhill for a while now. Every year there are more public skate sessions and fewer hockey and skating classes.

http://ishl.org/0506season/varsity/team/taylor.aspx

It may not have been as organized as it is now, but I'm 100% certain that back when THS had a team, they were ISHL. Maybe further back, I have no idea, but they were up until a couple years ago when they merged teams with SLHS.

Yea, MC probably has some of the best ice in the city too. Such a shame.

I dunno. I didn't pay attention to that stuff. We played a bunch of teams from the ISHL but I figured that was just regional stuff.

Fixed.

I so wish I could have that. The closest rink from here is a half hour away.

I'll play although it has been a while since I have skated. Euless, Grapevine or Nytex in NRH are all nearby.
