Lilja suffered a hand injury during AHL rehab (high ankle sprain), Dec. 16

Quote:
Now for the second straight game another Flyer has gone down with an injury. This time it was defenseman Andreas Lilja.

“Andreas left after the second period,” said Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren. “He suffered a high ankle sprain and he’ll be out for about six weeks.”

Lilja played just 14 shifts for a total time-on-ice of little over nine minutes. So far this season, Lilja appeared in 20 games, recording three assists, 14 penalty minutes and a plus-minus rating of plus-4 while averaging nearly 13 minutes of ice time per game (12:47).

As far as van Riemsdyk is concerned, Holmgren stated an upper-body injury suffered in Wednesday Flyers-Islanders game was the reason he was out of the line up.

He was originally expected to be out of action for the next 1-2 weeks, but there is hope that may change. For now it will be a wait and see process.

Said Holmgren: “We're hoping to get him back sooner than that obviously, but we'll see how it comes over the next few days.”

Even though he's been pretty terrible lately, that's not good.

Any word on when Pronger might return? Gustafsson?

Guess Marshall will be called back up then. (Unless he receives a suspension for his slash in the Phantoms game and AHL suspensions carry over to the NHL, don't remember how that works).

He had a decent game against Carolina, hopefully he'll hold up for a few more.

Kevin Marshall has been scratched from tonight's Phantoms' game.

That likely means he will be promoted for tomorrow's Flyers-Rangers' game.

Not that big loss, hopefully Marshall can fill his spot and play a decent game.

Pronger still being day-to-day this means we'll keep getting looks as Boudon. I think he's done as well as can be asked of him.

Only six weeks? Can't the Flyers just euthanize him instead?

I like the injury at this time!

Marshall and Bourdon really plays solid and deserves a chance to show what they can do at the nhl lvl. Now Gus and Lilja out and Walker has shown nothing the Club can´t stop the two from showing their talent.

Bourdon remainds me of Andrew Alberts. Although a lot of you will flame me but we can really use a physical presence on our defense. I hope Bourdon can play a solid game the next weeks so he stay up with the club.

If Gus come back he also should stay with the club:

Pronger - Carle
Timonen - Coburn
Meszaros - Gustaffson
Bourdon

So Gustaffson can play in games against more defensive teams to help the playmaking and Bourdon can play against more offensive teams to help the Dcore.

We don´t need Lilja and never had need for him IMO!!

thoughts?

Lilja will be back soon. per philly.com

http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/...mpid=131298059

Quote:
Less than 3 full weeks into a rehab assignment that was supposed to last 6 weeks, defenseman Andreas Lilja joined Schenn on the ice yesterday in Montreal as an unfamiliar face at practice. Lilja left the Nov. 25 Black Friday game against Montreal with a tricky high ankle sprain.

"I feel really good, the ankle feels really good," Lilja said. "I haven't battled yet, so as soon as I do a couple battle drills I'll really have an idea of how it is. But skating feels great. A lot of treatment really helps."

Since he was moved to the long-term injured list for salary-cap protection, Lilja is not eligible to return to the active roster until Wednesday in Dallas. Even if he was ready to return tonight, it would be hard to imagine Laviolette switching up from Marc-Andre Bourdon and Kevin Marshall in the middle of a six-game winning streak.

Yesterday, Lilja was not wearing any special padding or protection - other than tightly wrapped athletic tape on his ankle area - and was careful not to push it too hard to prevent further tearing in the area.

"They keep telling me that it will feel good and then hurt," Lilja said. "But I've felt really good for the last 3 days. We'll see what happens."

Andreas Lilja suffered a hand injury Friday night (December 16) during rehab in the AHL. Was scratched from the lineup Saturday night (Dec. 17).

Can't wait till medicine progress to the point that injuries can be swapped from person to person. Give Pronger's concussion to Lilja, and give Lilja limp wrist to Pronger. Season saved.

I'm more happy that we don't have to see Lilja in a Flyers uni for a while.
