I so wish that we could have kept him over the years.

Hopefully nobody gives him the boo bird treatment tomorrow night.

Earlier in the week, EJ Hradek from NHL Live said that the Play of the Week would be Larsson scoring on a slapper in this game, ushering in the beginning of a new young defenseman's career as we pay respect to one from our past.

He left to go get his brother a cup, and he did just that. A great man. A great Devil.

When growing up the names I learned first. Stevens, Broduer, Niedermeyer.

Tomorrow will be awesome. 130 row 2, seat 3 in a red Madden. See you there!

I remember Brodeur, and Niedermayer being drafted in 90, and 91. I don't really remember many others so much except Larsson this season cause being the lowest pick we've had since Nieds he had the highest profile, and was most talked about.

I didn't know much about Brodeur when he was drafted, nor Niedermayer. I just remember it being BIG. While we were a playoff team those seasons due to the fact the league was smaller we were still pretty mediocre so we got good draft picks. This was back when you could be a few games below 500, and get into the playoffs, and there were only like 23 teams.

I also remember Rolston that year too. We got two first round draft picks that year. Rolston, and Niedermayer. I don't know how he we got them maybe in a trade or something. Rolston didn't play until after the 94 lockout. Niedermayer came, and played a little bit that first season in 91/92.

Before the 1987–88 season, the Sabres traded Kurvers to the New Jersey Devils. He would play some of his best hockey for the Devils, posting 15 points in their surprising run to the 1988 Wales Conference Finals, and notching career highs of 16 goals and 66 points in 1988–89 season. He played two full seasons, and one game in the 1989–90 season, with the Devils before being traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for the pick that would turn out to be Scott Niedermayer.

Thanks Toronto

As far as Marty, Calgary wanted Trevor Kidd and traded up with us to get him ( 11th overall ). We dropped down to 20 and Marty was still there.

Thanks for that!

I hardly remember that guy!

Pretty sure after 92/93 season Niedermayer's first full season most people who were sane would have thought it was a GREAT trade! Niedermayer was already a highly regarded Defenceman by 93/94 when he was like 20 years old!

I hope to be on the road by 1:50 and start the pregame festivites asap. See you fools at Hells.

Fun Fact: The Devils are 2-0 on retirement nights.

Thank you Scotty!

I'm so pumped for this, such a special night for the Devils history and fan base. Say what you will about him, if he did have to leave, leaving for a west coast team for the sole reason to play and help Rob win a Cup is something I can handle. Compared to what others have done, he was the classiest along with Raffy.

Give the man the reaction he deserves, he will go down as one of our best players ever. And once the ceremony is over, take it to the Stars baby! Let's Go Devils!!!

Devils had sights set on Lindros, but the hockey god's decided that Neids would become a hall of fame player in NJ

Moose deverves the start. You know Marty starts in MTL and v.s the NYR. Im perfctly fine with this. Moose shut these guys out last year I do recall.

Nicely done on the GDT.

Tonight we pay tribute to one of the best offensive defencemen in NHL history, and certainly the best in Devils history. And then hopefully we get a win in his honour.

I gotta admit, I was about 75% satisfied with the decision to retire #27. But, now that the day is finally here, I couldn't be more happy and proud.
