As per @UWChuckShwartz:

Apparently Coyle (star Boston University F) has left school due to academic issues and will sign with the Saint John Sea Dogs of the QMJHL.

I trust the source for NCAA stuff.

Thoughts?

BU is in shambles now. Winning Hockey East is probably out of the question.

Must be hard for him to leave university. Good news for the CHL and QMJHL and Seadogs fans. Man that team is more nuts than last year.

Good for Charlie. And now an even-more stacked Sea Dogs squad.

Sucks for BU.

thoughts on how(if?) this will affect Jurco's icetime and/or role on the team?

Link

One of our Wild board posters shared this link about it. Story says "supposedly due to academic issues" but later devolves into hearsay about team dissatisfaction about the handling of the Trivino incident.

Once the Sea Dogs get healthy oh boy, that forward lineup is not fair to the rest of the CHL

Charlie Coyle
Jonathan Huberdeau
Tomas Jurco
Zack Phillips
Stanislav Galiev
Ryan Tesink
Stephen Macaulay
Scott Oke
Danick Gauthier (Scoring around a goal per game)
Aiden Kelly
Jason Cameron

wow...

aaannnd there goes the season. They might have been able to survive the loss of Trivino, but losing Coyle too... Its funny, because for about a year before he arrived all BU fans were hearing was how Coyle was Amonte's cousin and he's been wanting to play at BU since he was a kid, and he comitted on the spot, and he loved it at BU. Somehow in less than 2 years thats changed to he doesn't want to play there anymore. I can't help but wonder if this somehow reflective of Parker struggling to adapt to today's players...

I wouldn't rule out Coyle not seeing a whole lot of time at Saint John. I think the Wild might try to get him in Houston.

Pretty excited. Get the best asset available in the league, without giving up anything in a trade. If Max Clermot (NJD pick) comes back to the Q (which is rumored he may) then SJ will be all over him.

Look for them to be all over Morgan Ellis of Cape Breton (MTL pick) as well.

Huberdeau-Phillips-Gailev
Jurco-Gauthier-Coyle
Tesink-MacAuly-Oke
Cooper-Cameron-Kelly
Oliver-Dares

Beaulieu-Roussell
Ellis-Durepos
Gagne-Saab
MacDonald

Clermot
Auger

If thats what they look like after the trading peroid, and healthy, they are pretty much unbeatable.

I would be incredibly surprised if Coyle didn't receive significant time for Saint John. He's a first round pick that has by no means been disappointing. The kid has played well in BU. He's big, strong, has a mean skating style. He's going to the Q which is probably the easiest transition from College Hockey. I can't see a kid rocking a near point per game in his second year of hockey in the H-East not getting a chance.
