Big Blue Dinosaur opines again. Brian Burke on suspensions and psycho fans:
"I think [Shanahan is] making the right calls and he's attaching the proper weight [to suspensions]. If you would give a guy six games in the regular season, how much do you [give] him in the first round? You can't make people happy, so just do the job. And I think Brendan is doing that. It's impossible for fans to be rational at this time of year. It's impossible for Detroit fans not to be outraged when Shea Weber wasn't suspended... But I don't think he should have been."
Yes. Impossible to be rational. Much easier to be rational like Burke if your team is out on the 14th fairway.
Torres suspended 25 games (which would be all the possible playoff games that Phoenix could play this season).
Violation of 3 rules, repeat offender, etc.
There is some thought that this might be appealed.

The 25 games for Raffi Torres? Four were for Michalek hit in 2006, six were for Seabrook hit last year. That leaves 15 for latest offense.

I thoughtthe NHL's vid explained the length perfectly. He never learns.
Pollak is awesome

given the history he laid out in that video of his, I applaud the Shanaban he laid down. Its bout time he grew a set and put down something that could genuinely make idiot players stop and think about their next stupid play. 25 games? yeah that's a BIG part of his paycheck. 1.7M over one season? 25/82 games in a season? That's a half million the guy just lost right there in salary.

Not quite - it depends on how many more games the 'Yotes go in the playoffs. Only the games which carry over to next season will dock his salary - there is no pay lost for suspensions in the playoffs, since players are not paid during the playoffs.
Quote:
Should the suspension carry over to next season, because he is classified as a repeat offender under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, Torres will forfeit $21,341.46 in salary for every regular-season game in which he is ineligible to play.

I think the suspension is a little bit too harsh. I know he's a repeat offender, but 25 games?
Players don't get paid during the playoffs. So say like the Yotes end up staying in the playoffs for like 15 more games. Then Torres would only lose 10 games worth of salary in the regular season since that would be what was left.
He only loses money for each regular season game he misses.
Might be a small isolated incident but the Blues evidently denied Katie Bakes (Grantland Hockey Analyst) for media credentials. Don't think the NHL or any of it's teams are in any position of denying reputable media personnel press credentials.
