If you really want a comparison, just think of Tomas Plekanec.

The majority of hockey fans pronounce his name "Ple-kan-ets".

I still reprimand myself when I start using anglicized pronunciations. haha Niitymaki is tricky for me still. Getting the Finnish y right was my biggest problem. My host mother would sigh and claimed I say like a Russian. I learned a bit of Swedish (it's 2nd language like French here) and apparently I speak Swedish with a pretty thick Finnish accent.

It was funny going there. I was a product of the "Don Cherry Euros have no heart" culture of the time. But man, seeing the passion there, I knew a Finnish wave of pros was on the way to the NHL. Kids like Miettinen were eating it up in the 90s. It's the only other country in the world where hockey is the clearly undisputed #1 sport.
