Why?
Mason needs to play, you're not gonna be successful playing Pavs 70 times this year. Plus, lets not forget the ducks have been terrible this year and there coming off a game last night. I don't mind starting Mason against a weaker team.
Obviously I'd rather see Pavs, but I understand and support the decision.
The day ownership gets on a coach over playing time and who starts when is a scary day for fans.
The team is said to play hard in front of Mason; they apparently respect him to a man in the room. He is also reputed to be the hardest working player in practice. I'll take the judgement of the coach versus that of an anonymous internet poster.

It's a fine decision. Performance isn't the only reason to rest your starting goalie. Pavs has played a ton and Mason needs to get some time -- he can't just only play Carolina. This is as good a game as any to do it.
Guys, I'm probably one of the biggest Pavelec supporters on these boards, but I'm gonna say the same thing I said last time Mason started. He has to start sometimes, why not start him against the 'lesser' teams? The team plays great D in front of him, he has done fine the few times he has started. I don't think the coaching staff has any doubt that Pavs is our #1 goalie, it's not like they are starting Mason because Pavs has been bad, it probably is because they think that all goalies needs ice time and all goalies needs rest.
And worst case scenario, Mason sucks, we lose, my Ducks fan friend I'm gonna watch the game with mocks me and we have a new scapegoat for a game! Ladd is going to be so happy if that happens!
Edit: And all you Selänne loving judases out there are probably going to sing and dance when he gets the GWG.
