If you HAD to pick one... Subban or Pac?

At the end of last season, the answer was clearly Subban. However, MaxPac has had a huge development curve, similar to Subban, actually. PK also regressed a bit this season, although I'd say it's more of a confidence issue than anything, the fact remains that it is now a legitimate question to ask:

PK or MaxPac? In terms of trade market value and value to the team.

Subban.

MaxPac is a very, very good forward -- but #1 D-men are the most impactful and most valuable players on a team, and guys who play at that level while 22 years old are gold.

Good offensive Ds who can play that many minutes are far rarer than powerforwards-who-inexplicably-don't-play-like-powerforwards-anymore. Subban's going through a sophomore slump, but he probably still has fairly good value purely because guys like him are rarer.

I suppose it tells you something about a guy's value when he can be one of the better #1 D-men in the conference and basically be holding his team's defense together with his partner, and have that called "a sophomore slump".

Pacioretty's game never was about power. He's finese player with good size. While he can hit, he never was a big hitter.

Pacioretty is the closest thing to an untouchable this team has.

He's the player this team has been looking for since John Leclair was traded.

He'll be the player every GM requests when talking big trade with Montreal.

He's the most important player this team has on the offensive side of the puck, and the best homegrown talent the team has developed since Andrei Markov and Saku Koivu.

Subban is good but Pacioretty is more. He's awesome.

Patches forces his way into good areas when he can't get there by speed alone. That's not a 'power game,' but it is very useful, and something he does quite often. When he broke out with us last year, two things that I noticed were he was crazy fast, and he could actually hit the net with his shot.

Patches will be good for ~30 for us this year, which is just phenomenal considering a.) he was almost killed 8 months ago, and b.) he was suspended for 3 games.

This being said, if I had to part with one of them, it would have to be patches. #1 D are worth more than wingers of almost any sort. If patches were a 30 goal CENTERMAN though, this would be a very tough call. I would have to let Subban go.

edit: also, depends on the perspective return, and how Markov looks when he gets back. If someone wants to overpay, and Markov's looking bomb, I might consider patches staying over Subban. MIGHT. If not then you have to keep Subban.

As a d-man, Subban is more valuable to the team. He's a rare talent. He's hit a few rough patches this year, but its all a part of the development process

Pacioretty is good and will continue to get better, but I dont see him as a perennial all star kind of player like subban will be.

subban hasn't regressed. he's being forced to be a defensive defenseman because of all the injuries, and martin game him zero pp time until last week. he's on a very tight leash

PK and PK. Don't solidify your perspective based on a few poor months.

Pacioretty.

But that's because I think you could get more for Subban in the trade market.

Overall, I think they both bring key features to the team and I wouldn't want to lose either.

Close call but I'll go with Pacioretty. Subban is way too much undisciplined and while he makes some big play, he also makes stupid play too often to be a real top pairing guy.

Pac is the first top line offensive talent we have drafted in years, subban at his current play level is not as valuable to the team.

I'll keep Pacioretty because the team needs more size up front. He is also our biggest offensive threat this year with Cole. I like Subban a lot, but he can be easily replaced by Beaulieu in the future.

What the hell is the point of this question? Seriously, wtf is this thread suppose to be about? Clearly this isn't a decision that will have to be made for a few years, by which time both players will probably be completely different than what they are now. And we're in a position to keep them both until that happens.

So what exactly are you asking us here? Which player's our favorite? What is this, a Windows vs. Mac or a PS3 vs Xbox thread but for hockey players?

Subban AINEC for me.

He has more potential. It seems people forgot what he did last year.

Pacioretty is the choice of the moment but when PK heats up and Pacioretty cools down, everybody's gonna pick PK.

Subban for me too, rather easily, not knocking patches, I love him too, but PK is the real deal. One of the best D in the East and he is just a pup.

I refuse to pick between the two.

They are both untouchables, imo.

Raising hypothetical questions like this amounts to a game of survivalism. Do we go down the list until we're left with no one but Price?

I'm with you. We're not at the point where we need to even talk about moving either. Especially now that JM is gone....
