I think Jacques Martin had a clause in his contract that gave him 2M if he got fired.

And can the condescending attitude.
You can keep hoping and praying, but the Markov circus show is just that. Just another bad signing by the management. Hate to burst your bubble, but he will never be the same. If he comes back, he is one hit from retiring. Obviously you haven't been watching this show. 2 weeks, 4 week, 6 week, 8 week, 10 months...who cares at this point.

This is true. He directly had influence in moving Latendresse, Lapierre and Sergei out. He forced the hand of the GM. Also his treatment of them didn't help their value on the market by pretty much isolating them as "problems"

This was one of the things I hated about Martin(and yes like I said many times I wasn't one of his biggest fans) was not that he couldn't develop youth because I think he could have. The problem was that if the youth didn't fit his mold of player, then he wouldn't even care to give an extended look at players and would scapegoat them.

Aside from Lapierre's playoff performance, we saw Sergei, Latendresse and Lapierre regress under Martin, which lowered their value and forced the GMs hand.

Its a christmas miracle.....no offense JM.
I realize that this won't solve all our problems, but what a great start, PG just redeemed
himself....for awhile anyway.
I've honestly been waiting 21/2 years for this to happen.
Merry CHristmas everyone.

Martin may or may not be boring, but he's a strong systems coach and that's what the team needs. Good luck trying to find a coach who can instill the solid 5-on-5 structure to the club that this roster requires. I see no one on the ranks who can credibly do the job. I doubt that Cunneyworth is either.

I'm pretty sure the Habs just sacked their season, and I'm not very hopeful for the rest, because not only will we in likelihood end up with a less effective coach, we've also got an organization who'll make irrational panic moves.

Fearless prediction: two months, max, before we see "fire whoever" threads for Martin's successor. When the Habs name that guy. Still can't believe that it's not.

Bad way to start the day.
If JM himself wasn't able to instill a 'system', isn't it time to move on?

I agree about the organisation not being any better. Hopefully that'll come sooner than later.

And did others NHL coaches laugh at him when he made it to the ECF, 1 goal from the Stanley cup finals in his rookie year?

Exact quote by new coach Cunneyworth: "They have to show a willingness to put their bodies in harms way, that's what they're payed to do. Some do this, some aren't as much (or something like that)."

I wonder who he's directing those comments to... (cough cough, Cammalieri)

P.S. Larry Carrière is a great guy! I grew up and went to school with his son and he (Larry) coached my soccer team with my dad when i was kid. So stoked to see him behind the bench (and i guess doing interviews in French?).

With Gomez's millions, he probably paid off the medical staff, so that he can remain injured and not have to face the boo birds, personnally I'm pissed that we can't boo him.

for those who could not see that JM's system was not suited for this lineup and that he could not adapt to save his job, I ask why?

This team just got better by realizing that a new system and leadership was needed.

Many of us knew his days were numbered a long time ago. Wish we didn't have to let Muller go, we lost our chance to upgrade then cause Halak prolonged JM's time in Montreal.

Hopefully ownerships decision to fire JM and not hire a replacement works out. Maybe they should not have locked up JM for so long, now they are too cheap to hire someone. We have to place our assistant GM in as an assistant coach?

PG's days are numbered too. Looks like Molson has entered the building.

I know Whitesnake, LeBrun and a lot of others want to crucify Gauthier but what was his worst deal? How many times was he forced into a move by Martin's refusal to use a player like O'Byrne, D'Agostini, Kostitsyn or Lapierre? Maybe it was strictly Gauthier's decison or maybe he was forced into it, we will never know. The Kostitsyn deal definitely looks like the worst to me and even then it wasn't a complete disaster like the Gomez deal.

Markov was a no win situation for him. Hindsight makes it easy to say it was a bad move but what if Markov had been healthy.

Keep in mind that Gauthier's hands have been tied by some of the ridiculous moves that Gainey had made. The organization is still trying to recover from that fiasco. In the meantime, he has done an admirable job of patching holes while trying to rebuild depth.

He was finally able to convince Emelin to come over, he signed Cole and Diaz. Can you imagine where we would be without those three guys. While Emelin and Diaz may not be full fledged NHLers at the moment, they have done an admirable job filling in for an injury ravaged defense.

While we can point specifically to what we didn't like about Martin, the comments about PG seem to be more than general in nature. I would like to see specifically what the Gauthier detractors don't like. Maybe I can be convinced.

Basic Formula:

1) Player falls out of favor
2) Gets diminishing ice time on worst lines
3) Gets benched
4) The whole league aware player in the doghouse
5) Value of said player fallen to zero
6) Get zero value in return for the player
